The early season results for the Emery High Lady Spartan tennis team have been very positive. The team opened the season with a 3-2 victory over Canyon View and then a narrow 3-2 loss to Delta.
Coach Tom Hansen spoke about his team after the Delta match, “The girls are playing really hard and were looking good, much better than I thought we might be this early in the year. I am really pleased that the team came into the season ready to play.”
The first doubles team of Kaitlin Potter and Whitney Allen has won both of their matches so far in this young season. They defeated Delta 6-1, 6-4 and they defeated Canyon View 6-2, 6-1. Doubles is usually the area that Emery has excelled in over the years and this season it appears to be no different.
The second doubles team of Melanie Frisbee and Adriane Weihing has also won both of their matches. They defeated Delta 6-0, 6-2, as they were simply dominant this day. Everything seemed to be going their way as they hit the ball to the right spot. They also defeated the Canyon View team with a score of 6-2, 6-3.
In singles play, Meagan Singleton has started the season off well. Against Canyon View, she lost the first set 6-7 and then defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-1. Against Delta, she lost her second set in a tiebreaker after dropping the first set 6-4.
Whitney Saupan and Courtney Sitterud are playing the other two singles positions. Whitney is at first singles and Courtney is at third singles. Whitney lost her two matches 6-2, 6-4 and 6-2, 6-3. Courtney lost 6-4, 6-4 to Canyon View and 6-3, 6-1 to Delta.
The team is on the road twice this week as they travel to Uintah on Tuesday and to Juan Diego on Thursday.
