Kathryn Howa
PRICE-Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend, Kathryn Woodard Howa, age 88, left this world Sept. 18, 2007 to enter into a new and everlasting life with almighty God. Her 11 children were blessed to be with her during the last days.
She was born Sept. 2, 1919 in Panguitch, Utah to Deward and Blanche Heywood Woodard.
Married John Mose Howa, April 26, 1941 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Helper. John preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 2005.
Member Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, where she was a teacher of CCD. She was a member of the National Council of Catholic Women, and a proud member of the Moose Lodge.
She enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Monday night ladies bowling league for many years. Kathryn gave unconditional love to all who knew her, and she was an inspiration and friend to all.
Survived by one daughter, and 10 sons, Jean Ann (Kay) Dimick, Helper, Mose John Howa and Rose, Deward Lee (Linda) Howa, Robert Lynn (Linda) Howa, Daniel (Debra) Howa, all of Price, Rex Abraham Howa and Jan, Vernal, Roy Christopher (Jackie) Howa, Mesa, Ariz., Paul Joseph (Udella) Howa, Price, Philip James (Jamie) Howa, Edward J. (Wilma) Howa, both of Helper, Frank Mathew (Nancy) Howa, Los Angeles, Calif.; four sisters, Beth Whitney, Taylorsville, Diane Cadol, Fort Collins, Colo., Gretha (Warren) Eyre, Pleasant Grove, Sybil (James) Taylor, Panguitch; sister-in-law, Kathy Woodard, Panguitch; 33 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, John; son, David George; grandson, Lewis Mose Howa; sister, Barbara (Kay) Ipson; brothers, Paul and George Woodard; infant sister, Winifred; and brother-in-law, Paul Whitney.
Funeral Mass, Sat., Sept. 22, 2007, 11 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Friday evening from 6-8 p.m., with the vigil service starting at 7 p.m. Committal service, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Notre Dame de Lourdes Building Fund, 160 North Carbon Avenue, Price, Utah 84501.
Don Ross “Big D”
PRICE-Marion Donald Ross, age 85, passed away Sept. 18, 2007 in Salt Lake City.
He was born Feb. 13, 1922 in Arcadia, Utah to Silas Acel and Violet Nielsen Ross.
Don attended Carbon High School and Carbon College where he excelled in athletics and was valedictorian of both graduating classes. On Oct. 20, 1941, he married Barbara “Bobbie” Louise Pessetto, in Yuma, Ariz., she later passed away on Sept. 16, 1981.
During WW II he served in the US Army as Captain while stationed in Hawaii. After the war ended he returned to Carbon County where he was influential in the coal mining industry, serving as President of the Utah Coal Mining Operators Association for nearly a decade. In 1965, he went to work for Bureau of Mines in Pittsburgh, Pa. for one year. While residing in the area he worked for Joy Manufacturing as the marketing manager over the Western Hemisphere.
In 1972, Don returned to Carbon County where he was the Vice President/General Manager for Kaiser Steel over the Sunnyside operations, and he eventually went on to be President for Soldier Creek Coal Company until his retirement.
On Nov. 5, 1983, Don married Helen Mele Milovich, in Maui, Hawaii. During their retirement they spent many fun-filled years in St. George where he enjoyed golfing and going to Mesquite.
Survived by his wife, Helen Ross, West Jordan; son, Ron (Ann) Ross, Price; daughters, Cheryl (Manuel) Carrillo, Murray, Shauna (Wally) Snihurowych, Wellington; Helen’s children, Steven (Tammy) Milovich, Valencia, Calif., Rose Milovich, Danette (Jeff) Steinitz, both of Logan, Sam (Jody) Milovich, Sandy; and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
As a family we are most grateful that dad will be welcomed by his parents; son, Randall K. Ross; brother, Silas; and sister, Colleen DeLorenzo; and other family members; but most of all his beloved wife Bobbie.

Gladys “Elaine” Christofferson
Gladys “Elaine” Davis Christofferson, 81, died Fri., Sept.21, 2007 in Orem, Utah following a heart attack.
She was born Dec. 31, 1925 in Firth, Idaho. She was the daughter George Jefferson and Jessie Ireta Nilsson Davis.
On Dec. 23, 1941 she married her sweetheart Wayne Franklin Christofferson in Blackfoot, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
Elaine lived most of her life in Southeastern Idaho, and then in 1975 her family moved to Utah. She lived several years in Huntington, Taylorsville, and the Tremonton areas, and most recently with her daughter, Kaye Lyn Funk, in Saratoga Springs.
Elaine was well known for her independence, strength, and the ability to do what most women would not even attempt, such as: driving tractors, hauling hay, milking cows, changing tires, repairing cars, driving 18 wheeled spud trucks, hooking up and pulling her own travel trailer, and even welding on ships during World War II. She preferred doing anything outdoors and did it well.
Elaine is survived by her children Helen (Moe) Graham, Preston, Idaho; Larry (Wendy) Christofferson, Olathe, Colo.; Sandra (Terrell) Gneiting, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Tracy (Willie) Frisbie, Castle Dale, Utah; Kaye Lyn (Rex) Funk, Saratoga Springs, Utah; 31 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; her siblings: Betty (Keith) Dayley, South Jordan, Utah; George Ray (Judy) Davis, Aberdeen, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three children, one grandchild, both parents, and three brothers.

Annie Sheya
PRICE-Anna Marie Sheya, age 96, died Sept. 21, 2007 in Price. She was born in Pueblo, Colo. on March 20, 1911 to Michael and Mary Oppocher Zupan.
In 1913, the family moved to Carbon County where she later met and married Edward Sheya on June 20, 1939 in Price. He preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 1977.
Annie was always proud to live with the good people of Carbon County. Even with the infirmities of old age she did not complain or lose her sweet disposition.
She is survived by her son, Donald (Jeri) Sheya, Murray, Utah; and brother, Leo (Veda) Zupan, Ashland, Ore.; and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many longtime friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Ted (Maunty) Zupan.
The family would like to thank her good Dr. Daniel Monahan, and the very kind staff of Parkdale Care Center.
Funeral Mass, Fri., Sept.28, 2007, 10 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service, Thursday evening 7 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Mitchell’s Thursday and Friday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.

Dale Henry Oviatt
MOAB-Dale Henry Oviatt passed away at his home, surrounded by his family on Sept. 21, 2007. Dale was born Nov. 2, 1929 in Elmo, Utah to Byron N. Oviatt and Irene Day Oviatt. He had two brothers, Loren and Theo Oviatt and one sister Ann Fillmore.
Dale married the love of his life, Donna Fern Williams, on Aug. 6, 1952. They were best friends and enjoyed 55 years together.
Dale will always be remembered for his sense of humor. According to Donna, he never forgot a joke. He was talented, most people in Moab probably have a wood carving that he hand carved and painted. He enjoyed reading, especially Louis L’Amour. Dale enjoyed sports and the out of doors.
Dale enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, and spent many hours on the golf course. His number one talent was making people laugh.
He served his country by enlisting in the Navy in 1950, was stationed in Japan, and was honorably discharged in 1952.
Dale is survived by his loving wife Donna, three children Wayne Russell (Debra) Duff, Burnadene Yvonne (Ted) Burns, and Terry Dale (Sam) Kontgas; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Proceeded in death by mother, father, two brothers, one sister in law Margaret Oviatt, and one daughter, Dana Lynn Duff.
A memorial service to celebrate Dale’s life will be held at the Old Moab City Park, Sat., Sept. 29, 2007 at 11 a.m.
