The Lady Spartans cross country team at the starting line.

With the region cross country meet right around the corner, the men’s and women’s cross country teams at Emery High School are running well. The men’s team is currently in second place and is looking for another person to step up and help them claim first. The women’s team is competitive now but is a couple of runners short of really challenging for the title.
According to Coach Darrell Gardner, “The teams right now are doing quite well. The kids are stepping up and they are doing the things that they are asked to do. The boys are especially in good shape.”
Right now the men’s team is looking for another runner to really up his game, so to speak. Tyler Killpack, McKay Allred, Levi Swasey, Bryan Larsen and Spencer Fehlberg are all running well. Coach Gardner is looking for Cort Jensen, Dustin Jensen and Jake Gardner to step up and assist the others in winning region. Again according to Gardner, “those three are the key to winning this region.”
For the Lady Spartans, they started off strong but have since fallen off. They also need another runner or two to step up and run well and they then would have a decent shot at doing well in the state meet.
Rebecca Bott and Jessica Jensen lead the team. Tamra Luke and Janelle Urie are also running well for Emery. Amanda Ewell is a sophomore that has stepped up and is now helping the team.
Emery will travel this week to a meet at Carbon. Region is Oct. 10 at Delta. The State meet will follow the following week at Sugarhouse Park in Salt Lake City.
