As Nov. 6 gets closer, the political ads for and against the private school voucher referendum create more and more confusion for voters. Our concern is that these misleading claims will prevent voters from seeing the referendum for what it really is. It is NOT a liberal vs. conservative issue. It is not a religious vs. not religious issue. It’s really very simple.
Voting ‘yes’ for this referendum simply means you want to change Utah law so that a large chunk of your tax dollars will go to educate kids in private schools. Independent analysts say it will cost over $400 million to do this. Since there are no private schools in Emery or Carbon counties, not one cent of this money will be returned to our area.
A ‘no’ vote will leave funding for Utah schools the same as it has always been – with education tax dollars going to public schools.
