Aaron Chidester
PRICE-Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Joseph Aaron Chidester, age 88, passed away Oct. 22, 2007 at Castleview Hospital in Price.
He was born Aug. 27, 1919 in Bluebell, Utah to Joseph H. and Sarah Mabel Ide Chidester.
Aaron married Emma Jean Scovill, Feb. 13, 1954 in Orangeville, Utah, and their marriage was later solemnized in Manti LDS Temple.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Aaron was a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America Kaiser Steel Local # 9958. He shared a genuine concern for his family and especially caring for the animals he raised.
Survived by his wife, Emma Chidester, Price; four sons and four daughters, James (Kim) Chidester, Valley Head, Ala., Vanessa (Mohamid) Bolourforosh, Frisco, Texas, Darryl K. Chidester, Price, Jeffery (Stacie) Chidester, Layton, Bonnie (Don) Sadler, Price, Michel (Vanessa) Chidester, Pocatello, Idaho, Rosanne (Cameron) Boren, Vernal, Diana M. Chidester, Price, sister, Eunice (Don) Johnson, Price; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, James; and sister, Donna Mortensen.
Funeral service was held Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, 10 a.m., Price Sixth LDS Ward Chapel. Family was at Mitchell Funeral Home Friday evening from 6-7 p.m. and at the church Saturday one hour prior to service. Interment, Orangeville City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.
Helen Davies
HELPER-Helen Lorenc Davies, age 86, passed away Oct. 23, 2007 at the Heritage Park Care Center in Roy.
Born June 2, 1921 in Lvov, Poland to Wlodyslaw and Aniela Stryczek Lorenc.
Married Raymond Mose Davies, Aug. 18, 1951 in Chicago, Ill.; he died June 23, 1998.
Helen was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper where she was the past president of the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed arts and crafts and the camaraderie at the Senior Center. Her favorite pastime was playing a card game called Skip-Bo. She touched the hearts of everyone that she came in contact with.
Survived by two sons and two daughters, Anthony (Paulette) Davies, Villa Park, Ill., Edwin (Mona) Davies, Roy, Utah, Gloria (Joe) Ginski, San Carlos, Calif., Ruby (Richie) Allen, Albuquerque, N.M.; sisters, Jean Przepalkowski, Carol (Chester) Gulik, both of Chicago, Ill.; sister-in-law, Toshia Lorenc, Chicago, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Joe Jr., Kristyn, Jessica, Greg, Benjamin, Alicia and Gary; five great-grandchildren, Ian, Michael, Zachary, Jacob and Kaylee.
Preceded in death by her parents, and brother Frank Lorenc; son, Eugene; daughter, Barbara.
Funeral Mass was Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, 1 a.m. St. Anthony Catholic Church. Vigil service was Friday evening 7 p.m. at the church in Helper. Family was at St. Anthony’s Friday and Saturday one hour prior to services. Friends are welcome at Mitchell Funeral Home on Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Committal service, Mt. View Cemetery. Tom Martinez
PRICE-Thomas F. Martinez, age 89, passed away Oct. 23, 2007 in Price.
He was born Jan. 8, 1918 in Velarde, N.M. to Presciliano and Delfina Romero Martinez.
Married Josephine Lohman, Nov. 26, 1945 in Santa Fe, N.M.; she died on Aug. 12, 1998. Married Evangelina “Eva” Ledesma, Sept. 29, 1999 in Price.
Tom was a member of Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. He served his country during World War II in the Army, where he was honorably discharged at the end of the war at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a highly decorated veteran receiving one silver star, six bronze stars, one purple heart and various other medals. Member of the V.F.W. Miner’s Post # 2379.
Tom worked in various coal mines in the area and was a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America, Kaiser Steel Local # 9958. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, camping with family, and reminiscing with his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Evangelina Martinez, Price; five sons and four daughters, Tommy P. (Nancy) Martinez, Price, Michael (Karen) Martinez, Price, Robert (Ann) Martinez, Cedar City, James Martinez, West Jordan, Margie Fitzgerald, Price, Martha (Mike) Kilcrease, Rock Springs, Wyo., Patrick Martinez, Salt Lake City, Genevieve Martinez, Helper, Dorothy (Manuel) Trujillo, Layton; Evangelina’s children, Madalina Flores, Provo, Ismael Mendonza, Phoenix, Ariz., Alma Ramirez, Lourdes Estrada, Lupita Ortez, Julian Mendoza, all of Nuva Casa, Grandes, Mexico; brother, Martin Velarde, N.M.; sisters, Angie of Pueblo, Colo., Louisa of Clinton, Utah, Flora and Bobbie; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild..
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters, Perfecta “Tita”, and Margie.
Funeral Mass was Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, 10 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service was held Thursday evening 7 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family was at Mitchell’s Thursday and Friday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Cliffview Cemetery, Price.
Mary Metelko
SPRING GLEN-Mary Krebs Metelko, age 84, passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007 at Parkdale Care Center in Price.
She was born Nov. 22, 1922 in a chicken coop in the old mining camp town of Peerless, Utah to Jack and Mary Kos Krebs.
Married Rudy Metelko, Oct. 12, 1945 in Helper, Utah; when home on leave from the Army. Rudy passed away suddenly March 7, 1988.
Mary was a lifelong resident of Carbon County and a devout member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar Society and the Merry Mix-Ups. She was a member of the Slovenian Lodge and the Carbon County Senior Citizen Band.
Mary enjoyed her flower garden, dancing the polka and she treasured all her friends. One of her favorite past times was writing letters in Slovenian to her cousins that lived in Slovenia, Europe.
Survived by three sons and two daughters, Rudy (Judy) Metelko, Price, Mary Ann (Jerry) Nelson, Anthony (Barbara) Metelko, Johnnie Metelko, all of Spring Glen, Rose Boyack, Poway, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, 10 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church. Vigil service will be Friday evening 7:30 p.m., at the church in Helper. The family will be at the church Friday evening at 7 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to Mass. Committal service, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home.
Elaine Eaquinta
April 18, 1917-October 20, 2007
ST. GEORGE- Elaine “Scooter” Eaquinta, as she was known in St. George, age 90, passed away on Oct. 20, 2007.
She was born in Missoula, Mont. to George and Gertrude Smith Heck on April 18, 1917.
At a young age she moved to Soldier Summit with her family. She graduated from Carbon High School where she played the clarinet in the marching band; which traveled to Chicago to perform at the World’s Fair. She met and married the ruggedly handsome Joe Eaquinta, on April 22, 1939 in Helper, Utah. He died Feb. 28, 1973.
They ran the family owned LaSalle Hotel in Helper, Utah which is now a historical landmark. She taught dance for more than 40 years, both in Carbon County and Las Vegas, Nev. where she lived and raised her family. She was an avid fisherman and loved to travel.
Elaine never met a stranger. She was loved by all and will truly be missed.
She is survived by her daughter Karen (Bill) Sharkey; granddaughters, Keeper Sharkey and Logan Eaquinta and her daughter-in-law, Korla Eaquinta.
Preceded in death by her parents, George and Gertrude Heck; husband, Joe Eaquinta; and children, Joey and John Eaquinta.
Funeral service Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, 2 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main Street, Price, Utah. Family will be at Mitchell’s one hour prior to services. Interment Price City Cemetery, Price, Utah. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, Nov., 6, 2007, 3 p.m., at the St. George Care Center, 1032 East 100 South, St. George, Utah.
