San Rafael Classic Triathlon to raise money for search and rescue
The First Annual San Rafael Classic Sprint Triathlon will take place June 28 at 7:30 a.m. in Huntington State Park and will be a fundraising event for the Emery County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team, a non-profit, public safety organization.
The sprint distance triathlon will include a half-mile swim across gorgeous Huntington Lake, a 15 mile ride up a closed freshly paved scenic road toward the old ghost town of Mohrland, and a 5k run on the same closed course.
“Located between the alpine forests of the Wasatch Plateau and the pristine wilderness of the San Rafael Swell, the San Rafael Classic Sprint Triathlon will be an event people won’t want to miss,” said Ben Orgill, spokesman for the San Rafael Classic Sprint Triathlon.
The triathlon will be capped at 400 participants and other scheduled events include a team relay triathlon, a duathlon, and a kid’s triathlon.
There will be a meatless pasta dinner with live entertainment on June 27 at the Huntington State Park.
Registered athletes will have free admission to the dinner, and all other adults will be $7 and kid’s 12-years-old and under will get in for $5 each.
All campsites at the Huntington State Park have been reserved on June 27 for athletes registered for this event.
There are also a limited number of campsites available in several nearby campgrounds, as well as motel rooms in Huntington and other surrounding communities.
