Relay for Life Fundraiser
A benefit dinner for the American Cancer Society, Tastes From Around The World, will be held on June 7 at 6 p.m. at the Ferron Senior Center at 190 North 300 West in Ferron. Cost is $15 per person. Vacation Bible School
Jungle Jamboree Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church in Ferron. June 2-6, 9 a.m.-noon, ages 5 years-sixth grade. Bible lessons, crafts, games, songs and refreshments. Spardettes Fund Raiser
The Emery High Spardettes are having a car wash/yard sale fund raiser on June 7 at the Castle Dale Rodeo grounds pavilion from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
Donate Books to Sheriff’s Office
The Emery County Sheriff’s Office is looking for appropriate books and magazines to be donated for the inmates to read. If you have something to donate, take the item to the Sheriff’s Office or to the Emery County Progress Office during business hours.
Goblin Valley State Park Junior Ranger Program
June 7-Incredible Insects. What’s the difference between a bug and an insect? Find out that and more as we search for Goblin Valley’s mini-beasts. Goblin Valley State Park-The Wet Desert
June 7-There is no denying that Goblin Valley does not get a lot of rain, but water has left its mark all over the landscape. From violent flash floods to ephemeral water pockets, join park staff to see how water carves, nurtures, and defines the desert. Meet at 8:30 p.m. at the amphitheater just past the campground. Miss Emery
If you are a girl between ages 17-24, this includes girls who are juniors now or seniors and college age girls. This is a scholarship pageant and the winner receives a new computer and a $1,000 scholarship, first runner-up $700 scholarship and second attendant, $500. Pageant will be on July 19 at Emery High auditorium. Little Miss Emery
Contestants for the Little Miss Emery pageant are needed. Girls who will be 5-8 years old by July 1, 2009 are eligible. The winner will accompany the 2009 Miss Emery to the Miss Utah pageant. The Little Miss pageant will be held during the Emery County Fair on July 31 at 6 p.m. To register call Jarilyn at 381-5667 or the Emery County Progress at 381-2431. Contestants will perform a talent, write a poem, participate in evening wear and on stage question.
Heritage Week in Helper
June 2-7 is Helper’s Fifth Annual Heritage Week started by the Western Mining and Railroad. Heritage Week has grown to be such a popular event that it drew the attention of True West Magazine and led to Helper becoming the 2006 #10 Top 10 True Western Town and then jumped to become 2007’s #1 Top 10 True Western Town.
Summer Cheer Classes
Summer Cheer Classes will begin in June. The first session will be held June 2-30 and the second session will begin July 7-30 at LaRae’s Dance Studio and Gym. Classes are for 5-18 years of age. Students will be working on tumbling, cheer skills, and stunting. Junior High and High School Cheerleaders are also welcome to attend classes. Emery High Football Summer Weights
The summer weight program for Emery High football players will begin June 9. It will be every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7 a.m. in the weight room at EHS. To culminate the program, the team will attend a camp at Millard High camp beginning July 14-18. This is for grades nine-12. Football practice begins Aug. 4.
Heritage Days Rodeo Concessions

Orangeville Days June 6-7
June 6 8:30 p.m. movie night in the park (free). Women in the Outdoors “Flockers”
Bear Creek Campground July 11-12. All ladies 14 and up are welcome to our third annual event. Leave the husbands, boyfriends, pets and small children at home and come have a couple of fun-filled days with just the girls. Pre-registration required. Outdoor workshops including archery, fly fishing, crafts, dutch oven cooking, GPS, canoeing, outdoor survival, mountain man, herb gardening, game calling, concealed weapons permit, and much more. Participation fee includes meals, four workshops, membership to the National Wild Turkey Federation, one year subscription to NWTF’s Women In The Outdoors magazine, camping, and tons of fun. This is a non-competitive event. Mounteer To Celebrate the release of Franky Frankinstain
June 18 from 2-4 p.m. at The Star Grill and Fun Center in Huntington. There will be free popcorn and the Star Grill will have a special for the children. J.B. is the author and illustrator of Camp Were Wolf. If you have a copy, bring it in and get it autographed. The Star Grill will have copies of both Camp Were Wolf and Franky Frankinstain. The official release date of Franky Frankinstain, is June 17.
