Ferron City held three public hearings to gather comments from residents concerning zoning and financial issues for the city. The first hearing was concerning reopening the 2007-2008 budget to transfer any unencumbered or unexplained balances of any of the funds to another fund. No comments or questions from the public were given.
In the second public hearing, the council reviewed the proposed budget for the 2008-2009 fiscal year. Adele Justice explained to Mayor Gil Conover and the council the budget amounts for each of the departments in the city.
The final public hearing concerned adoption of the amendments to the Ferron City zoning map pertaining to land located on Molen Road. Zoning is proposed to be changed from RA-1 residential-agricultural to RA-2 residential-agricultural. Along with this zoning change, the allowed lot sizes were changed.
The Municipal Building Authority of Ferron was then convened to discuss the Millsite Golf Course project. Mayor Conover announced the county has informed him of the transient room tax money that will be given to the golf course. He said the TRT money in the amount of up to $20,000 will be given to Millsite each year for the next 30 years.
When the council reconvened into regular city council meeting the resolutions for the public hearings were adopted.
A rental property owner asked the council for a change in the billing of utility bills sent by the city for his four-plexes. He owns two four-plexes in town and due to the fact that there is only one meter and one water and sewer line running into the property, being charged for eight families is excessive in his opinion.
Mayor Conover explained to the property owner of the Emery County Special Service District is the entity who makes the guidelines for the cities in relation to the water and sewer hook-ups and usage in each city. The special service district bills the city for eight units on those properties and the city must pay that bill, so these are the costs passed on to the property owner.
In other business conducted by Ferron City, it was decided to stop payments for leased water to two residents because the city had previously decided not to lease any more water. They also agreed to donate $100 to the Miss Emery Scholarship Pageant.
Councilman Ronny Bloomer stated litigation is coming on the residential treatment center issue. The planning and zoning visited the site and formulated questions for the proposed site.,
Councilman Joe Trenery said the street project is moving slowly but is getting done. He also stated the drainage project is making good progress, and the curb and gutter project is 80 percent complete.
Mayor Conover informed the council of the Ferron Youth City Council’s activity throughout the past year. They have done many projects and activities and the leaders, the Behlings, have done a great job.
The next Ferron City Council meeting will be held June 26 at 7 p.m. in city hall.
