On Friday night, Emery lost to a good Hurricane team 25-20 and 26-24. Hurricane was glad to escape with the win. Hurricane coach said, “We won but you outplayed us. We were lucky to get the win.”
Emery then defeated Layton Christian 25-17 and 25-19 to get their first win of the season. Emery closed out Friday night with a close loss to Richfield. Scores were 25-23 and 26-24.
Saturday morning, Emery lost another close game, this time to Park City. Final score was 26-24 and 25-22.
Emery then won four straight matches to get into the division championship game. Emery defeated Parowan 25-18 and 25-20, Copper Hills 25-13 and 25-17, Beaver 25-17 and 25-22 and Parowan again 25-18 and 25-23.
In the title game, Emery defeated Desert Hills 25-18 in the opening game before losing 25-22 and 15-10.
Starting for the Spartans were Frankie Komar, ShiAnne Allred, Danavin Reed, Tiffany Tuttle, Sierra Bridgewater and Jodi Robertson. Brooke Jensen, a sophomore, played really well as a blocker for Abby Kay who was out after having surgery. Also playing were Keera Allred, Kristiann Grange and Shawnee Allred.
After the games Coach Bell talked about her team, “These girls were fighters. They have good attitudes, they never gave up. They are blocking real good. We can get better.”
