Meet the Candidate Night
The Emery County Economic Development council along with the Emery County Progress will host a meet the candidate night on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Emery High Little Theatre. Candidates from the president, congress, state senate, county commission and school board have been asked to attend. Refreshments will be served. Come prepared to ask questions.
Peach Days Idol at Emery Care and Rehab
Emery County Care and Rehab will host the Peach Days Idol Contest on Sept. 6 at 11 a.m. Age groups are: 8-12; 13-17; and 18 and up. Call the Care Center to sign up 384-2301.
Fundraising Celebration
A fundraising celebration hosted by Emery County Care and Rehab on Sept. 6. It will be held at the Ferron Fairgrounds. The bake sale will be held at the Care Center from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. with entertainment. For the items to be given away at the fairgrounds, tickets are available at the fairgrounds or at the Care Center.
1983 Class reunion

Aron Ralston to speak
Aron Ralston, accomplished mountaineer, author of Between a Rock and a Hard Space, and survivor of an amazing act of self-preservation, will present a lecture and slideshow describing his epic tale on Sept. 4, 8 p.m. in the Orson Spencer Hall Auditorium at the University of Utah. Hosted by The Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, admission is $10 at the door. This presentation is a benefit to help SUWA preserve outstanding wilderness at the heart of the Colorado Plateau.
Miners Health Education Program
A free program for active and retired miners and families, Sept. 30, 7-8:30 p.m. Joe’s Valley Room, Western Energy Training Center, 847 North Hwy 191, Helper. Participants will learn how drugs affect the human body mentally, physically, and emotionally. Some fascinating facts about learning and performance will be shared that will demonstrate the need for employees and managers to surround themselves with clean workers and ways to achieve a true drug free work environment. Also, understanding your medication coverage and Medicare Parts A, B, C, and D. Light refreshments will be served.
Orangeville City Seeking Veterans
Orangeville City is looking for names of veterans and those who have served our country since WWII to the present. The city is sponsoring an Eagle Scout Project of updating and making a new plaque to honor Orangeville Veterans and military personnel. To qualify to be on the list: they need to be/or have been a resident of Orangeville City sometime during their life, and to have served in any military branch or called to active duty with the reserve or guard units. We are proud of our men and women who serve our country in the many capacities that the military offers, without their service and sacrifice we would not have the freedoms we have today. Living with Hearing Loss Class
Hard of hearing people, family and friends: learn about signs and symptoms of hearing loss, myths about hearing loss, causes of communication breakdowns, repairing misunderstandings, grieving over hearing loss, useful adaptive equipment (not hearing aids). Four weekly sessions on Sept. 17, 24 and Oct. 1 and 8 at 10 a.m. Castle Dale Senior Citizen Center. Class sponsored by Sanderson Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Instructor Carma Jackman.
