Festival of Trees


The 38th annual Festival of Trees to benefit Primary Childrens Hospital will be held Dec. 3-6 at the South Towne Expo Center, 9575 South State Street, Sandy from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. For more information visit www.festivaloftreesutah.org.

Hunter’s Breakfast and Lunch


On Nov. 1, the Lily of the Valley DUP will hold their annual hunter’s breakfast and lunch fund raiser. The event will be held at the DUP building at 55 South 100 East, Elmo. A drawing will be held for a quilt and other items.

Free Compost


The city of Ferron will be giving away free compost Nov. 6th at the fairgrounds from 9a.m.-12 noon (first come- first served). A back hoe service will assist those that need trucks loaded. Sponsored by the Beautification and Fairgrounds Committee. For more details: City Hall at 384-2350

Emery High School Play


The drama class will present Boo, a Halloween play on Oct. 28-30. The audience will be guided through various rooms in the auditorium. Program begins at 7 p.m. Watch for future productions, in November. Man of La Mancha, in January, more beginning drama plays, in February, Snoopy will be presented, and in May, a yet unnamed play will be given.

Trunk or Treat and Dinner


Desert Edge Christian Chapel will host a chili and cornbread dinner on Oct. 31 at the church located at 500 South Main, Huntington, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. followed by Trunk or Treat in the parking lot from 7:30-8:30 p.m. For more information contact 687-2933.

Junior Jazz Signs Ups

Emery County History Books for Christmas


The book “A History of Emery County” will be available for only $6 until Christmas. Pick up what you need at the Pioneer Museum in Castle Dale, the Museum of the San Rafael in Castle Dale, or the John Wesley Powell River History Museum in Green River. For more information call Sylvia at 687-9184.

Informative meeting about Hard of Hearing services and Assistive Technology


This informative meeting will be held at the Castle Dale Senior Center on Nov 1 from 10 a.m.3 p.m. Presented by, Robin Traveller, Hard of Hearing Specialist, Sanderson Community Center of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Taylorsville. You will learn about: free amplified phones, assistive listening devices to help you hear better, hard of hearing classes, one-on-one coping needs appointment with the Hard of Hearing Specialist, will answer any questions you may have relating to hearing loss issues, and will have assistive devices on display.

Christmas Festival


A Christmas Festival will be held at the Emery Recreation Center on Nov. 7-8. On Nov. 7 it will be from 1-8 p.m. and on Nov. 8 it will be from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. For more information contact Jodi Magnuson at 381-2222 or Shandy Magnuson at 749-2574. There will be food, booths and entertainment.

Hunter Education Course


A hunter education course will be held Nov. 3,4,5,6 and 7, at the Emery County Recreation Center. Class will be from 4-7 p.m. each day. You must preregister by Oct. 31. Sign up early, there is a class size limit. Participants will be required to obtain a voucher at a licensed vendor for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources prior to registering for the class.For more informaion contact Emery County Recreation at 381-2108.

Fund Raiser for Lucas Giroux


A benefit fund raiser will be held for Lucas Giroux, a 17 year old Emery County boy who has had two extensive back surgeries. The medical bills will be helped from this fund raiser. It will be held Nov. 8 at the Ferron fairgrounds building and will begin with an indoor yard sale at 4 p.m. A chili/fry bread dinner will be served from 5-7 p.m. and the auction and raffle begins at 7 p.m. There will be live music by Leather and Lace. Cleveland Elementary Halloween Festival


Oct. 31, Trunk or Treat 5:30-6 p.m., 6-8 p.m entertainment: story telling, fortune teller, and games. For the Mom’s, dinner will be available. Bake sale and silent auction. Tickets are available at Cleveland Elementary front desk or at the door.

The Senior Wheels USA Program makes available Power Wheelchairs to Senior Citizens and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. The Power Wheelchairs are provided to those who can no longer walk safely, nor self propel a manual wheelchair and who mee the additional guidelines of the program. FALL FEST TO CELEBRATE AND RAISE FUNDS


The Thrift Store, Soup Kitchen and Avalon house in Helper, Utah will be hold a “Fall Fest,” at the location in Helper on November 1, 2008. The Thrift Store and Soup Kitchen are non-profit organizations under the direction of PACT out of Green River, Utah and the Avalon house is under the direction of Ben Logue. On site managers, Judi Bishop, Thrift Store and Soup kitchen and John Paul Fazzio, Avalon house are striving to continue with creating meals, shelter and clothing for the residents who are now at Avalon House and all who are in need of the services offered. This fall fest was one of the ways felt to give the public an opportunity to come and share a day with us and enjoy some entertainment and good food. Among the events of the day will be a karaoke contest running off and on all day for different age groups. Chili, Taco soup, cornbread to satisfy your pallet on this autumn day, which will be served. Face painting and with weather permitting a street dance to be held on Ivy street that evening from 6 to 10 p. m. Hot Chocolate will be served free all day long while supply last. If anyone has handmade items either food or crafts they would like to bring in for us to have for the sidewalk sale that day, we would appreciate them. HALLOWEEN FUN FOR GOBLIN FAMILIES AND FRIENDS


On Friday, October 31, 2008, come all you ghosts, goblins, and all who want to enjoy an evening of fun and food with the Huntington Lions Club. There will be chili, homemade chicken noodle soup, cornbread and dessert served along with drinks. The place for this spooky affair will be at the Old City Hall in Huntington, located by the park and Elementary school. There will a monetary prize for the scariest costume and the best carved pumpkin. Halloween treats for all children who come in costume to trick the Lions club members. We will be there from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p. m. Come one, come all and enjoy the sights and smell of the Halloween Holiday.

Local Veterans Employment Representative


A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children.
