Orangeville Christmas in the Park Chili/Soup Cookoff


On Dec. 6 in the Orangeville Community Center there will be judging of chili and soup at 4 p.m. Bring one gallon of your soup or chili to be judged and it will be served at the public dinner. Sign up for the cookoff prior to Dec. 5 at city hall. The chili and soup will be served at 5 p.m. At 4 p.m. for the children there will be a craft making a Christmas ornament in the small room at the community center. The dinner will be served from 5-7 p.m. The park lights will be turned on at 6:30 p.m. and the Emery High Choir will sing. There will be a special visitor along with carolers, a fire and hot chocolate in the park.

Poetry Reading at CEU


The College of Eastern Utah welcomes students and the general public to a reading with poet and new CEU English faculty member, Jason Olsen. The reading will be Nov, 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Alumni Room, Jennifer Leavitt Student Center.

BACA Community Christmas


All children must be accompanied by an adult to the BACA Community Christmas event at Kraync Motor Company on 98 South 300 East in Price on Dec. 6 from 1-4 p.m. All children will get a free picture with Santa, a bag of candy and a toy.

Picturing America


Ferron Library, in cooperation with the National Endowment for the Humanities and American Library Association, is sponsoring “Picturing America” for the month of November. Through this program laminated posters of American art work are brought to libraries nationwide. Come in the library and gain a deeper appreciation of our country’s history and character through its art.

The Emery County Sheriff’s Office And The Emery County School District


A free seminar presented by the Emery County Sheriff’s Office and the Emery County School District will feature Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, United states army (ret.) speaking on preparing for school attacks, preventing school violence, school lock down and critical incident stress on Dec. 15 from 4-8:00 p.m. in the Emery high school auditorium, 955 North Center, Castle Dale. Lt. Col. Grossman is an internationally recognized scholar, soldier, and expert in the field of human aggression and the roots of violence and crime. His books include the Pulitzer Prize nominated book on killing, as well as on combat, and stop teaching our kids to kill. Training will be conducted on the Emery High School Campus. Price City Fire Department Womens Auxillary


The Price City Fire Dept. Womens Auxilary is in need of batting for quilts that are being donated to the U of U Burn Center. If you have quilt batting to donate or could contribute monetarily to this cause, call Rita Dunn at 637-6150.

Li’L Abner Tryouts


Tryouts for the Emery County Community Theatre musical production of “Li’l Abner” will be held Nov 18 and 19, from 7-9 p.m. in the EHS chorus room. There will be no tryout packets, but please come prepared to sing a song of your choice. A CD player will be available, but you can sing without accompaniment also. There are parts for adults and teens, but no chidren are needed for this particular musical. See you at tryouts.

Huntington City Christmas Celebration


Huntington City’s Christmas celebration will be held Dec. 5 at Huntington Elementary. Dinner will be at 6 p.m. with a program at 7 p.m. Everybody is welcome.

Festival of Trees

Emery High School Plays


Watch for future productions, in November. Man of La Mancha on Nov. 20-22, in January, more beginning drama plays, in February, Snoopy will be presented, and in May, a yet unnamed play will be given.

Study Abroad Program Blend Spanish Immersion, Biology and Costa Rica


The Interamerican University Studies Institute is offering a Spanish immersion summer program in Costa Rica, for high school students who are interested in environmental biology. Costa Rica ¡Pura Vida. combines intensive language instruction, individual homestays and field trips to three areas of the country. Students will experience unspoiled national parks, a marine biology sanctuary open only to scientists, a village of 12 families in the midst of the Cloud Forest, and birds, animals and tropical flora beyond compare. The program is open to student’s ages 15-17 with two years of high school Spanish and a course in biology (by June 2009). Scholarships available. The scholarship application deadline is Dec. 5. A holiday bazaar will be held at the Emery Community Center Nov. 20-22. Anyone wishing to have booth space should call Barb Petty at 286-2215. Booth space rent is $20 with a $10 refund if space is left clean.
