President-elect Obama has a new website to discuss the transition process and what he’s going to be implementing after being sworn into office. And in light of that solemn act of being sworn into office, I submitted the following on that website:
“The Protect America page on this website makes the following claim… ‘The first responsibility of any president is to protect the American people.’ Let us please remember that the Oath of Office for the President of the United States is to ‘preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States,’ not to protect the American people. I understand that you’re talking to a bunch of scared people, but please don’t forget what your primary responsibility as President is, especially when people would have you protect them at the expense of the Constitution.”
What can I say? I’m a non-partisan critic. I don’t care if you’re Republican, Democrat, or something else. If you say faulty things, I’m going to point them out.
To those who will only critique a president from the opposing political party, (i.e. those who relentlessly defended Bush in every unconstitutional act he performed, or for that matter, those on the Democrat side who critiqued George Bush but who now think that Obama is above reproach), I hope you will now join me in protecting the Constitution of the United States by condemning this false belief apparently held now by Barack Obama.
In any country of the world, at any time in the history of the world, it has always been your right to agree with the government. In very few countries at very few times, it has been your right to peaceably disagree. Exercise your rights.
