Christmas Concert


The Huntington Glee Club and Women’s Chorus will present an evening of Christmas music, Sunday, Dec. 21 at the Huntington LDS Stake Center, at 7 p.m., featuring the cantatas “Let Every Heart Prepare Him Room” by Gerald N. & Lynn S. Lund and “The gift of the Mag ” by O Henry & Oliver X. White.

Festive Friday


Traditions!! Traditions!! Come join us for a day of sharing traditions. Dec. 12, 12 noon to 1 p.m. We will be having a salad and a taster’s table for lunch. Please bring approximately 50 “tastes” of your favorite holiday dish to share and $2 for lunch and handouts.(If you don’t have time to make a dish to share, please plan on joining us anyway!!) We will have plenty of food. Please take your recipes to the Extension office by Dec. 10 to have copies made. We will also be making personalized and “designer” tree ornaments with vinyl and a CRICUT cutter. Cost of the ornaments will range from 75 cents to $2. Ho-Ho-Hope to see you there!!

Angel Tree


Cleveland Town will sponsor an angel tree again this holiday season. If you know of a needy person or family in our town, who needs to be put on the angel tree, please call the town hall 653-2310. If you would like to help by picking an angel from the tree and provide a gift for them, please call or stop by the town hall during business hours, Tues, Wed. and Thurs. from 11:30 to 5 . Gifts need to be returned to the town office (100 w. Main) by Dec. 23rd.

Cleveland’s Annual Christmas Party & Program


Cleveland Town will hold it’s annual Christmas party on Dec. 24th at 6 p.m. at the town hall. There will be a short program, light refreshments and of course Santa will make a special visit. Come and join our fun family holiday tradition.

Emery County Senior Citizen Christmas Party


The annual senior Christmas party will be held at the Museum of the San Rafael on Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. Plans are underway for a meal, entertainment, gifts, prizes and plenty of fun for all seniors in Emery County. Third Annual Ice Fishing Tournament


Join Scofield State Park staff Dec. 27 for its Third Annual Ice Fishing Tournament. Registration is limited and required by calling (435) 687-2491. The cost is $13 per entrant. Check-in begins at 6:30 a.m. with the tournament beginning at 7 a.m. A prize is awarded for the biggest fish, along with drawings for door prizes, and free hot chocolate and hot dogs for everyone who participates.

The Emery County Sheriff’s Office And The Emery County School District


A free seminar presented by the Emery County Sheriff’s Office and the Emery County School District will feature Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, United States army (ret.) speaking on preparing for school attacks, preventing school violence, school lock down and critical incident stress on Dec. 15 from 4-8 p.m. in the Emery High school auditorium, 955 North Center, Castle Dale. Lt. Col. Grossman is an internationally recognized scholar, soldier, and expert in the field of human aggression and the roots of violence and crime. His books include the Pulitzer Prize nominated book on killing, as well as on combat, and stop teaching our kids to kill. Training will be conducted on the Emery High School Campus. Study Abroad Program Blend Spanish Immersion, Biology and Costa Rica


The Interamerican University Studies Institute is offering a Spanish immersion summer program in Costa Rica, for high school students who are interested in environmental biology. Costa Rica ¡Pura Vida. combines intensive language instruction, individual homestays and field trips to three areas of the country. Students will experience unspoiled national parks, a marine biology sanctuary open only to scientists, a village of 12 families in the midst of the Cloud Forest, and birds, animals and tropical flora beyond compare. The program is open to student’s ages 15-17 with two years of high school Spanish and a course in biology (by June 2009). Scholarships available. The scholarship application deadline is Dec. 5. A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children.
