Public nominations close Jan. 9 for Arch Coal teacher awards

By By

Nominations will close Jan. 9, 2009 for the Arch Coal Teacher Achievement Awards program, according to Ken May, general manager of Sufco mine.
The program, which is open to classroom teachers in Carbon, Emery, Sanpete and Sevier counties, gives the public an opportunity to say “thank you” to teachers who have made a difference in our lives, according to May. The counties surround the Dugout Canyon, Skyline and Sufco coal mines operated by Canyon Fuel Company, a subsidiary of major U.S. coal producer Arch Coal, Inc.
“The Arch Coal Foundation will recognize five star teachers with $3,500 personal, cash awards, said May. “This program is special because it asks the public to nominate the teachers and peers – other teachers – are the judges.
“This would be an excellent time to recognize these teachers by nominating them for these awards,” said May.
Nomination forms are available in every public school in the four counties, plus many business “partner” locations. Nominations also may be made online at www.archteacherawards.com. The awards are expected to be presented near the close of the school year.
Partners for the program’s third year include the Office of Governor Jon Huntsman, Utah State Office of Education, Utah Education Association, Utah School Superintendents Association, Carbon County School District, Emery County School District, Sevier County School District, North Sanpete School District, South Sanpete School District, Far West Bank, radio stations KMTI, KLGL, KMGR, KSVC, KCYQ, KOAL, KARB, KRPX, and both TacoTime and Bookcliff Sales in Price.
Arch Coal is Utah’s largest coal producer and a large, state employer with a workforce of approximately 800. Through all its operations, Arch Coal is one of the nation’s largest coal producers. The company is listed on the New York Stock Exchane and maintains its corporate headquarters in St. Louis, Mo.
