PRICE-Marty Johnson left this world on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, after a long and courageous struggle with Lupus and Sjogrens Disease.
She was born on July 5, 1926 in Bowen, Colo. to Quirina Freta and Placido Gallegos, and has been our shining star ever since.
She met and married the love of her life, Joseph Benjamin Johnson on Dec. 26, 1944 in Raton, N.M.
Together they are the proud parents of four children, Joseph Douglas, Barbara Jo Adams (Bob), Yvonne Olson (Frank) and James David “Duke” (Connie).
Mom did not start to work outside the home until all of her children were in school. She served as secretary of the PTA at Peterson Elementary in Sunnyside, Utah; home room mother for many years; hosted many 4-H and Boy Scout meetings. She was a proud member of the Good Shepherd and Notre Dame Catholic Church; VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Slovenian Home.
Mom loved to bowl and on Dec. 2, 2001, she was inducted into the King Coal Ladies Bowling Association Hall of Fame. She worked as a waitress at the Price, Crest and Greenwell cafes, was the food counter manager at Woolworths, and later owned and operated Papa Joe’s for more than 35 years where she had many wonderful friends. Mom also loved the Utah Jazz and John Stockton.
Mom is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, Jocelyn O’Niones (Steve); Michelle Walker (Jim); John D. Adams, II; Jacque Benedikt (Corwin); Vaughn Olson (DeDe); Dane Olson; Joseph B. Johnson II; James David Jr.; Jennifer Rae; 19 great-grandchildren and one brother Johnny. She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Margaret, Emily, Emma, Kitty Mae, Tilly, Manuel, Bobby and Pete and one great-granddaughter, Daina Olson.
We love and miss you mom but are happy knowing you are celebrating Christmas with the Lord. You will always be in our hearts. Our special thanks to Parkdale Care Center and Drs. Radley, Monahan, and Potter for their tender care of mom.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, 10 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, Price, Utah. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Notre Dame Building Fund, Price, Utah.
