HELPER-Frances Kuretich Skaggs, age 90, passed away July 2, 2009. Descendant of immigrants; first generation American-born citizen with all the associated hardships; wife, mother of two, grandmother of seven, great-grandmother of 18, four step great- grandchildren, one great-great grandchild. This is the legacy of Frances Kuretich Skaggs.
She was born to Katarina Ozanich and Anton Kuretich on Sept. 1, 1918 in Walsenburg, Colo. Frances and her sisters shared the belief that family always came first.
After graduating high school and working several different jobs, Frances married Willie Lafayette Skaggs on April 29, 1944 and accepted the job of wife and mother. They shared 35 years together until his death on April 5, 1979.
Frances is survived by one daughter and one son, LaFaye Skaggs Fahl (David) and William Roger Skaggs (Margaret Ann Perla); seven grandchildren, Barbara Ann Skaggs Scoggins, Margaret Katherine Skaggs Scovill, William Roger Skaggs Jr. (Billy), Sherry Lynn Skaggs Salazar, David Douglas Fahl, Michael Travis Fahl, Jason Scott Fahl; 18 great- grandchildren; and sister, Helen Olson.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill; brother, Anthony Kuretich; sisters, Pauline Pollack, Sylvia Jackson and Donna Thomas.
Graveside service, Wednesday, July 8, 2009, 1 p.m., Price City Cemetery. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Wednesday from 11:40 a.m.-12:40 p.m. prior to graveside services. Friends are welcome at Mitchell Funeral Home daily from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.
