Miss Emery pageant: Eight contestants to compete for crown on Saturday

The Miss Emery Scholarship Pageant will be held on July 11 at the Emery High Auditorium at 7 p.m. Eight contestants have entered the pageant. The contestants will compete in interview, evening gown, on-stage question, swimsuit and talent. Points are given in each category. This year’s contestants include: Sharel Gilbert. She is the daughter of Paul and Sharmon Gilbert of Lawrence. She will be a senior at Emery High in the fall. She was awarded the top chemistry student award. She would like to go to college and focus on a medical career or forensics. She participates in the marching band, 4-H, cheerleading and was on the science team. She attended Girl’s State and is interested in the military. Sharel will perform a drum solo for her talent. Her platform issue is animal health.
Shelby Huntington is the daughter of Dusty and Lorie Huntington of Castle Dale. She is a 2009 graduate of Emery High. She will attend Southern Utah University in the fall. She is an honor society member and a seminary graduate. She will major in dance and continue on to get a PA. She plans on working at a hospital and coaching a dance team. She was a drill team all-state member and Miss Castle Dale in 2008. She served as drill team president and drill mistress. She loves to scrapbook and is very organized. She will dance for her talent. Her platform is Mentoring Youth to set and reach their goals.
Jessica Labrum is the daughter of Scott and Mindi Labrum of Castle Dale. She is a 2009 graduate of Emery High and will attend Snow College. She is an honor student and a winner of the presidential scholarship. She would like to become an elementary teacher. She was on the Spardettes drill team. Jessica loves to read. She will sing for her talent. Her platform issue is helping young people embrace reading called R.E.A.D. reading, exciting adventures daily.
Kaitlin Potter is the daughter of Shauna Potter of Ferron. She is a 2009 graduate of Emery High. She won three state medals and six region medals in drama. She was a sterling scholar. She will major in theatre and minor in communications. She would like to become a motivational speaker or a drama teacher. She was the studentbody president at Emery High and the current Peach Days queen. She was a varsity tennis player. For her talent she will perform a humorous reading. Her platform issue is combating underaged drinking and prescription drug use.
Tricia Boyer is a 2009 Emery High graduate. She will attend the College of Eastern Utah in the fall. She was president of the FCCLA. She would like to obtain an associates degree in early childhood development and would like to become a day care provider. She won a silver medal in FCCLA state star events. She loves children. Her talent wil be singing. She is the daughter of Roger and Janel Boyer. Her platform issue is improving child safety through enforcement of child safety seat laws.
Leisha Magnuson is the daughter of Laurel and Randy Magnuson. She will be a senior at Emery High in the fall. She is an honor student and on the governing youth council. She would like to become a nurse. She is a member of the Spardettes drill team. She hates hamburgers and pizza. She will perform a dance for her talent. Her platform issue is dealing with drugs and drug awareness.
Allison Stokes is the daughter of David and Nikie Stokes. She just completed her first year at Southern Utah University. She is a member of the National Honor Society and on the dean’s list in the science department at SUU. She would like to become a crime scene investigator. She is on the SUU ball room dance team. She likes to run barrels, hunt, fish and ride horses. She hates bread and milk. She owns her own sheep business. She loves to dance and tumble and her talent will be a ballet dance on pointe. Her platform issue is supporting wounded soldiers.
Sabrina Wood is the daughter of Jeff and Serena Weber. Her platform issue is healthy lifestyles. Sabrina will be a senior at Emery High in the fall. Her talent will be a clarinet solo. She would like to become a paramedic flight nurse. She maintains a 3.5 grade point average. She participates in band, on the tennis team and is the mascot for Emery High. She participates in the drama club and says she can fix anything with duct tape.
