Woodrow C. Johnson celebrates 90th birthday
Woodrow C. Johnson (Woody) a former resident of Huntington will celebrate his 90th birthday on July 7. Woody was born in Seattle, Wash. in 1919 to Karl Sixtus Johnson and Effie Edna Sandstrom. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Seattle. Woody served in the Army Air Corps 19th Special Services Group during World War II. His unit served in North Africa, Corsica, Pantelleria, Italy and France.
When he returned to the states Woody was stationed at Kearns Army Base. Upon returning from leave in Seattle, Woody was introduced to Colleen Guymon daughter of Clarence L and Ruby Kirby Guymon of Huntington. They were married in Seattle on July 15, 1946. In 1947 they moved to Huntington and made their home there. Woody took over management of Guymon Mercantile in Huntington in 1952 and managed the store until it was sold in 1968.
Woody and Colleen then moved to Lehi. Colleen passed away in 1984. Woody and Colleen have three children, Laurel Johnson Alger, Donald Johnson and Janet Johnson Cole. Woody has 12 grandchildren and 23 great- grandchildren and all will be helping him celebrate this special day.
