PRICE-James Eric Alderson, age 59, passed away suddenly July 24, 2009 in Price with his loving wife by his side.
He was born March 9, 1950 in Sacramento, Calif. to Irvin “Bud” Alderson and Martha Henke.
In his early years Jim would help his father in the family business hauling tomatoes in California. In 1963 the family moved to Carbon County where they made many dear friends. Jim graduated from Carbon High School in 1968. On Halloween night of 1969 he met Lynn Birch and after a brief courtship they were married on April 18, 1970 in Price, Utah.
Jim worked in the coal mines until 1981 when he purchased his own Peterbilt and flatbed trailer to become a self-employed truck driver following in the footsteps of his father and older brother. Jim traveled around the United States, Mexico and Canada for 30 years. In the early 1990s, his wife Lynn went on the road with him, making life that much more enjoyable.

Jim had a passion for racing his whole life, from his own dirt racing experiences, his friend’s drag racing to his sons’. He would spend all of his free time with Brett and Jason building and working on the race cars. His passion wasn’t just racing, it was spending time with his family and whatever project they were doing. He loved to watch his boys work in the garage and wasn’t afraid to dive in to help, even if it meant getting stuck in an unusual place while everyone laughed and took pictures. His passions infected everyone close to him.

He was on the road most of the time, but he did his best to be home for the races. Jim made sure his presence was known at the track, making sure the truck, trailer and car was always spotless, voicing his opinion, and celebrating the loudest. While on the road he loved to talk on the phone to anyone about racing, he would make many phone calls to many people asking questions, and trying to find that edge over the competition.
Jim also enjoyed hunting and fishing. His opportunities to go were far and few between so he made every minute count. He always came home with a good story like “Honey I need a new gun, mine jammed.”
Throughout the years Jim would reunite with old high schools friends, whether it be at a car show, a race, or just shopping in town, the stories were endless and the bull was deep.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn Alderson, Price; sons, Brett (Mechelle) Alderson, Price, Jason (Arin) Alderson, Helper; brother, Steve (Janice) Alderson, Helper; sister, Sue (Fred) Toensing, Salt Lake City; uncle, Bill (Bev) Alderson, Elgin, Neb.; Jim’s special light was his granddaughter, Ryann Woodbury; dear friends, Ike (Mary) Lee, Price; and multiple nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Beth Ann; and mother-in-law, LaPreal Birch.
Funeral service, Tuesday, July 28, 2009, 10 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family was at Mitchell’s Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to service. Interment, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper.
