Our trip to Colorado to visit friends in Cortez and Mt. Crested Butte ended and we started the drive home to Southern California. We stopped at the Tamarisk Restaurant in Green River, Utah, for lunch on Aug. 21. The restaurant had been among several recommended by the volunteer at the Visitor Center east of Green River on I-70. Our lunch was delicious and we enjoyed watching the river flowing by as we ate. The entire staff was friendly and welcoming.
Soon we were back in the car headed to Cedar City for the night. Upon arriving at the motel, I discovered my fanny pack, with wallet, camera and other personal items, was not in the car. I had left it in Green River at the restaurant. Panic set in. I called the restaurant and confirmed they had it. I spoke with Kayden Mecham, and he assured me he would send it to my home on Saturday. He went above and beyond the call of duty to have my possessions returned.
I called again on Saturday afternoon to make certain he had sent the package. I called several more times over the weekend and each time he assured me it was on its way. He was always courteous and patient with a frantic senior citizen. The fanny pack did arrive in due course with all intact.
Green River can be proud to claim the entire staff of the Tamarisk Restaurant as its citizens and especially Kayden Mecham, my hero.
