SUNNYSIDE-Susana Maestas Leyba, age 88, passed away Sept. 22, 2009 at Parkdale Care Center in Price while surrounded by her family.
She was born Aug. 29, 1921 in Canjilon, N.M. to Thomas and Frances Romero Maestas.
She married Joe R. Leyba, Jan. 25, 1938 in Canjilon, N.M.; he died Jan. 4, 2003.
Susie was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in East Carbon. She enjoyed fishing, camping and cooking for her family. She will be dearly missed by her family and a community of friends.
She is survived by her four sisters and two brothers, Laura Garcia, Roy, Adam Maestas, Thomas Maestas Jr., both of Ogden, Porfie Maestas, Espanola, N.M., Teddie (Tony) Valdez, Odelia Garcia, both of Canjilon, N.M.; four sons and one daughter, Jake (Tonie) Leyba, East Carbon, Joe R. (Rebecca) Leyba, Albuquerque, N.M., George (Josie) Leyba, Salt Lake City, Paul (Virginia) Leyba, Roy, Mary (Wilfred) Vigil, Sunnyside; 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by parents, sisters, Esther and Corrina; and brother, Manuel.
Susie’s family would like to thank everyone at Miner’s Trading Post for always keeping her driveway clear in the winter, the nurses and staff at Parkdale Care Center for their constant care of our mother, and her special niece Elsie Vigil for always being there for her.
Funeral Mass was held Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, 10 a.m., Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Vigil service was Friday evening 7 p.m., at the church in East Carbon. The family was at Good Shepherd in East Carbon Friday and and Saturday one hour prior to services.
Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are welcome daily. Committal service, Valleyview Cemetery, Sunnyside.
