Tim Bridgewater a Republican US Senate candidate, Nov. 19, stopped in the midst of his campaign visit to 29 counties in 29 days to meet with several faithful Republicans in Emery County at Big Mama’s Pizza. This is not the first time he has been to Emery County. He was last here when he was running as a candidate for the House of Representatives in the primary against John Swallow.
Those who attended the dinner heard Bridgewater’s views on the dangerous expansion of government, healthcare, and why a new generation of leadership is needed in Washington, D.C.
Bridgewater, a successful businessman, has again cast his hat in the ring to run for political office. In the past he has been a candidate for the US House of Representatives. He was born and raised in Utah in a trailer park in West Jordan. He is the first one in his family to attend college. He also went to high school at Bingham High School and Snow College with Orangeville’s Steve Tuttle.
Bridgewater is a candidate for the US Senate seat now held by Senator Bob Bennett. Bridgewater believes that Senator Bennett has aligned himself too often with the Democrat’s to pass legislation detrimental to the people of this nation and to Utah. He also believes that Senator Bennett has forgotten the values enumerated in the Republican Party Platform and he no longer represents the conservative values of Utah. “Senator Bennett helped negotiate the first TARP Bill. He is not part of the solution, but is part of the spending problem in Washington and he is more about the past than he is about the future,” said Bridgewater.
“We need a change in leadership and a vision for the future to keep our country strong, our military sound, our economy unfettered by government intrusion and our families free to pursue happiness and prosperity. I will stand up for limiting government growth and power and protect the traditional values and principles that have made our country great.” Bridgewater said.
Bridgewater has long been a supporter of Republican candidates and has campaigned on behalf of Republicans like Ronald Reagan, Bush and Cheney and many others. He has campaigned vigorously for the election of good federal, state and local candidates.
He feels he has a good chance of winning this election as he has a number of delegates that have committed to support him in the upcoming Republican Convention. He is also finding support from the Republicans who want a change of leadership along the Wasatch Front.
He said, “The Ethics in Legislation Initiative being sent around in an attempt to obtain enough signatures to put it on the ballot in 2010 is to establish an unaccountable commission and is anti-Republican. I am for ethics in legislation, but this initiative will set up a board that is not accountable to the Attorney General or the State Supreme Court and will cost the Utah taxpayers an additional half million dollars a year. It will certainly make the lawyers happy, because the state will have to pay lawyer fees for the accused legislators and the board. This is an attempt by the Democrats to go around the legislative process. I think the Legislature is capable of handling any ethics concerns of the electorate,” stated Bridgewater.
Bridgewater feels he has a good base of delegates along the Wasatch Front that will help get out the vote for him. The sentiment is now against career politicians and in favor of cleaning house.
“Over the years capitalism has made life better for our parents, our kids and ourselves. That is completely under attack on the federal level. Under this administration government is the entity that wants to take care of everything, or be the solver of all our problems. Contrary to what the founding fathers envisioned in the US Constitution. This is the first generation of parents that feel their children will not have it as good as they did.
“We are concerned about the future. Our Federal Government is currently bankrupting the future of this country if we don’t get our spending in check. The government has a credit card with no limits and they are spending as fast as they can. We now owe $12 trillion. We have $500 billion in interest to pay yearly for that debt. We are dependent on the Chinese to buy our debt because we cannot control our spending. When you rob Peter to pay Paul you can always depend upon the support of Paul. No one would run a business the way we run our government.
“The Republicans lost the last election because, we did not live up to limited government and limited spending. I fully support the US Constitution and the 10 Amendments. The state, the county officials and city councils make better decisions because they are more accountable to the people. Those in Federal Government are so remote from the people, that they try to make decisions for everyone and what is good for Chicago is not good for Emery County.Term limits are good for the President why do we not do it for Congress. We have some that have been in Congress 50-60 years.
“I am not a lawyer, I am a small business man. My view of the world is from the small business stand point and government will not get us out of the recession, small business will. Free small business up and stop destroying the market to get us out of the recession.
“I am passionate about cutting spending getting more transparency in government, getting back to conservative economic principles that have made this country great. We do not have a Utah Conservative voice in the Senate today. Neither Bennett nor Hatch are considered to be in the ranks of the conservatives, according to several groups that monitor such things.
“Thank you for being here and hope you will support my election. I will be your conservative voice for Utah if elected to the Senate,” concluded Bridgewater.
