FERRON-Our loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Geraldine Neoma Laymon Sanders, age 92, passed away Nov. 24, 2009 at the Emery County Nursing Home.
She was born April 17, 1917 in Iola, Kan. to Sam Ellis Sammons and Fronia Neoma Sanders.
Geraldine married Ora Oscar Laymon and they had three wonderful children before his untimely passing on Sept. 13, 1949. She later married Walter Ray Sanders and together they spent years volunteering on various veteran projects before his death on Nov. 30, 1980.
Geraldine was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ferron. She was a dedicated member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary for the past 57 years where she received many certificates for her outstanding contributions. She loved helping others and was a faithful volunteer with the RSVP Program. Her generosity and tireless efforts will always be remembered.
In her earlier years, Geraldine enjoyed canning, traveling, and hunting and fishing with her family. Her free time consisted of crocheting, quilting and she won numerous blue ribbons for her handiwork at the County and State Fairs. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by two sons and one daughter, Donald O. (Barbara) Laymon, Ronnie E. (Sue) Laymon, both of Salt Lake City; Sandra M. Howell, Ferron; sister, Vivian McKee, Long Beach, Calif.; 23 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Emerald Sammons; and son-in-law, Jay P. Howell.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, 2 p.m., First Baptist Church of Emery County. Interment, Ferron City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.
