CARBONVILLE-Andrew Melvin Cook, age 82, passed peacefully Dec. 21, 2009 at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on May 2, 1927 in Castle Gate, Utah to Lorenzo and Alta Checketts Cook.
Married Joye Ann Utley, Jan. 8, 1955 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles LDS Temple; she died on May 8, 2002. On Aug. 17, 2005, Andrew married Lucille S. Frandsen at the cabin in Scofield, Utah.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a graduate of Carbon High School and later attended art school in California. Andrew proudly served his country from 1944-1946 in the Merchant Marines and later in the Army/Air Force from 1946-1949. After returning from the service, he went to work for Libra Scope in California where he retired as an industrial artist with 32 years of service.
His retirement years were filled with fishing, gardening, remodeling and following his lifelong dream of painting outdoor scenes. Andrew was an accomplished artist and everyone cherished his beautiful artwork. He always looked forward to family gatherings and spending time with his beautiful and loving wife, Lucille. His artwork that he leaves behind will be constant reminders of the love that he shared with all.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Cook, Carbonville; brother, Vernon (Loretta) Cook, Cypress Mill, Texas; his beloved children, Andrea (Chuck) Johnston, Bremerton, Wash., Melanie (Larry) Daehler, Hoquiam, Wash., Bruce (Lisa) Cook, North Ridge, Calif., Stephen (Yolandi) Cook, Ogden, Utah, Glen (Cindy) Cook, Elmira, NY, Kristan (Ryan) Cook, Paradise, Utah, Ernie (Terri) Bruno, Gary (Tauna) Bruno, Randy Bruno, Jeff (Valerie) Bruno, Bert (Michelle) Bruno, all of Price, Utah; 30 grandchildren, Holly, Melissa, Travis, Misty, Carl, Ryan, Scott, Kira, Cassie, Simon, Heather, Jeanne, Devon, Brendan, Jason, Chelci, Careshmeh, Camellia, Omeid, Azita, Landon, Brandi, BriAnne, Nathan, Bryson, Kortnie, Baylie, Kaytlen, Jaycey, Kaylee and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents, brother, Bryan; and sisters, Beulah Day and Wanda Allen.
Graveside service was held Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, 12 noon at the Price City Cemetery.
The family received friends at Mitchell Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. and Thursday from 11- 11:45 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home.
