HELPER- Our loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Erminia “Minnie” Martinez Rojas, age 87, was carried home by God on Friday, Jan. 22, 2010 at 2:55 a.m. at her son’s home in Orangeville while surrounded by her loving family. She was born Nov. 19, 1922 in Sunnyside to loving parents Tiburcio and Annacleta Alcalan Martinez. Married Alvero Rojas, Sept. 29, 1947 in Salt Lake City; these vows were later renewed at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Helper.
Minnie worked at the Greenwell Motel for many years and later at the Carbon and Castleview Hospitals where she cared for every patient and individual needing comfort and a sympathetic hand to hold. She later went to Wal Mart and worked as a door greeter where she welcomed everyone with all her love. Her favorite place to work was for Dr. O.W. and Terry Phelps.
Minnie later returned to being a housewife, mother, and grandmother where she could enjoy the things that she loved; such as the flowers in her garden, fishing, sewing, embroidering, and most of all her love of cats. Her greatest joy was cooking her favorite dishes, tortillas, mole, rice and chilito for her family and friends that she greeted with open arms.
We will miss our wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, but we are comforted knowing that she is with God now.
Survived by her husband, Alvero Rojas, Helper; four beautiful children, Teresa Elizabeth (Joe) Jacquez; Elisa Margaret (Jerome) Pehler; Dolly (Richard) Martinez; Robert Anthony (Zelda) Rojas; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and a beloved sister, Andrea Martinez.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Albert and Alfonso Martinez; and a granddaughter, Valarie D. Martinez.
Funeral Mass, Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, 10 a.m,. St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Helper. Vigil service, Monday evening 7 p.m. at the church in Helper. Family will be at St. Anthony’s Monday and Tuesday one hour prior to service. Committal service, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper.
