HUNTINGTON-Daniel LaVar Black, age 70, passed away peacefully at home in Huntington, Utah on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010. He was born June 25, 1939 in Royal, Utah, along with his twin sister DeAnn.
Dan was raised working on a ranch and he thrived in that capacity all his life. He loved spending time with the horses and herding cattle.He was a cowboy for Nutter Ranch in Nine Mile Canyon for several years. He spent many years working as a cook out on the range, and he was also a chef in restaurants in Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado. He loved reading western novels. He retired back home from Deer Creek Mine.
Dan married Ida Stagner in 1970 in Wyoming, she later passed away, then he married Dorothy Garton from Bakersfield, Calif. on July 27, 1999.
He is survived by his wife, daughter: Cheryl Gibson, grandsons: Miles Sherman and Devin Wilson and sister: Katherine Ward and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents: LaVar and Leila Bunderson Black and Emmet and Iola Erickson Fletcher, twin sister: DeAnn Black Jensen, brothers: Leonard, George and Don Fletcher.
Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale (720 N. Center St.). Viewing will be Friday at the Mortuary one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Huntington City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Family and friends may sign the guest book and share memories of Daniel at www.fausettmortuary.com.
