Relay for Life


This year’s theme is Celebrating More Birthdays. CEU play


“1776” opens Feb. 4 and plays through Feb. 10. A matinee is offered on Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. It runs approximately two hours. Ticket prices are $7 adults; $5 seniors, non-CEU students and CEU faculty and staff; $3 CEU students with a CEU ID.

Rabies Clinic


Cleveland Town will sponsor a rabies clinic on Feb. 27, from 1:30-3 p.m. at the Cleveland Cemetery storage building, 200 N. 600 E. in Cleveland. Dr. Griggs will be the vet this year. All dogs are required to have a current rabies shot before they can be licensed for the new year. All dogs must be licensed by March 1. Dog licenses are $5 for spayed or neutered, $15 if not. All dogs owner are encouraged to take advantage of this clinic. This will be the only clinic held this year. Late fees will be assessed after March 1.

Snow fun in Orangeville


Orangeville Youth City Council is doing a snowman fund raiser. Orangeville residents, get creative and make a snow creation ( a snowman, animals, forts, etc.). Contest will end Feb. 5, and will be judged on the 6. The winning creation will get their driveway and sidewalks cleaned by the Youth City Council Members. Orangeville City Youth Council will be having a snow activity on Feb. 13 for all city youth. Meet at the City Park at 1 p.m. and be prepared to play capture the flag and have a snowball fight.

Emery County Recreation Seeks Information


Emery County Recreation is in the process of making a booklet containing a list of all county recreation events, registration dates, and activities. If your city, club, or group have any items that they would like to include in this booklet, send the information to Emery County Recreation as soon as possible.

Millsite Golf Academy


A beginners golf class will be held Feb. 25 and run through April 1 at 6 p.m. at the Emery County Recreation Center for ages 8-99. This class will teach you golf terminology, etiquette, how to use clubs and much more information. A $25 fee is required. Bring your clubs with you. If you don’t have clubs, they will be provided. Sponsors and golf clubs and cash donations are welcome. The class will be taught by Jordan Leonard and Carl Sitterud. Register at Emery County Recreation before Feb. 22. Show Pig and Show Lamb Workshops


The Southeastern Utah Junior Livestock Show Committee is sponsoring workshops on how to select and care for show pigs and show lambs at 7 p.m. on Feb. 11 at the Huntington Senior Citizen’s Center. Presenters will be USU Extension Agents Jim Jensen and Dennis Worwood. Topics will include: selecting a show animal, facilities, health care, grooming, and feeding. There is no charge for the workshops.

Valentine Carnival


The 15th annual Huntington Elementary Valentine Carnival will be held at Huntington Elementary gym on Feb. 12. Private Pesticide Applicator Classes


Farmers and others can obtain a Private Pesticide Applicator’s License by attending one of two licensing classes that will be held in early Feb. The first class will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Fri., Feb. 5 at the Green River City Hall. The class will be repeated from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 6 at the Events Center at the Carbon County Fairgrounds in Price. Participants will not have to take an exam to receive their license. There will be food handler’s classes for all persons working in restuarants, bars, nursing homes, school cafeterias, convenience stores or deli’s. Classes will be taught in Price at Southeastern Utah District Health Dep’t. located at 28 S. 100 E. at 9 a.m. 4 p.m. & 7 p.m. on Feb. 16 and March 16.

Huntington City Dog Licenses


The Huntington City 2010 dog licenses are now due. Proof of current rabies vaaccination must be presented before license can be issued. Deadline for dog licenses is March 1. Dog licenses may be purchased at the Huntington City Fire Station on the following dates: Jan. 23 – 10 a.m. – noon (Glen Jensen D.V.M.). Feb. 27 – 9:30 a.m. to noon (Brett Griggs D.V.M.).

The Salt Lake Children’s Choir is now in its 30th year and is planning a 30th Anniversary Gala Concert for Saturday, May 15, 2010 in Abravanel Hall. Orangeville City Rabies and Licensing Clinic


Orangeville City Rabies and Licensing Clinic will be held on Saturdays Jan. 16th and Feb 27th at the New Fire Station 10am to 12 noon. 2010 Dog tags are avaiable at the City Hall, please bring in your rabies information when licensing your dog. $8 for altered dogs and $25 for unaltered dog. All dogs need to be licensed in the city, house dogs and outside dogs by March 1st.

Free Resource Makes Applying for Student Financial Aid Easier


Self-guided presentation walks students through the sometimes-confusing financial aid application process. The Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority is very pleased to announce “Navigating the FAFSA,” a much-needed new resource to help students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (commonly called the “FAFSA”). This tool is a self-directed presentation that guides students through topics explaining the purpose of the FAFSA, how to obtain a PIN to sign their FAFSA securely online, what information should be gathered, how to complete the FAFSA, and how to submit it. Easily found on the front page of the UHEAA website, this presentation gives high school counselors and financial aid professionals another tool to help their students. A New Orleans doctor is looking for veterans of either the Iraq war or the war in Afghanistan who have suffered traumatic brain injury or post traumatic stress disorder to participate in a free pilot trial of treatment that so far has had 100 percent beneficial results. CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children.
