HELPER-Irene Daskalos Hovat, age 85, passed away Jan. 27, 2010 in Price while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Aug. 19, 1924 in Price, Utah to John K. Daskalos Sr. and Mary Vorinakis.
She married Tom Hovat on Nov.10, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They later divorced.
She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church. Graduate of Carbon High School class of 1942 and attended Carbon College. Irene was an insurance agent since 1966 and was the first women agent in Utah with Prudential Life Insurance. She worked extensively with photos, genealogy, and family history. Irene loved working in her yard with her flowers and hr lawn was always perfect. Irene loved the Chicago Cubs and fulfilled her life dream of going to Wrigley Field in 2007. Her keen mind never failed to amaze her children and grandchildren. She selflessly did things for everyone she knew.
She is survived by her children, Mary Tonks, Pocatello, Idaho; Mike Hovat, Spring Glen; Nick Hovat and Terry Malloy, Tucson, Ariz.; Christy (Shawn) Baker, Fairbanks, Alaska; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother John (Thelma) Daskalos Jr., Ogden; sister, Phyllis Marsing, Salt Lake City; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, son Thomas John Hovat Jr. and her infant brother.
In lieu of flowers family suggest donations to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 61 South 200 East, Price, Utah 84501.
