Weed and Pesticide Workshop

A weed and pesticide workshop will be held on March 11 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., in the Tamarisk Restaurant located at 1710 East Main Street in Green River. The workshop is sponsored and taught by the Green River Conservation District and USU Extension Service. Lunch will be provided. The cost for this workshop will be $15 per person. Those interested in attending please RSVP by March 8, to the Utah Association of Conservation Districts at (435) 381-2300 ext. 119.

Calling All Cleveland Crafters And Artisans

Cleveland town will be hosting a Spring Expo and Grand Opening to showcase the new Cleveland Fire station on May 1 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. As part of the expo we will have a “Cleveland’s Own” Crafters booth available for Cleveland residents interested in selling unique handcrafted items. Stock Show Information

It is time to be thinking of purchasing your stock show animal for the Southeastern Utah Junior Livestock Show. If you need help finding a hog to raise please call Blaine at: 435-820-8540. For sheep call Glen at: 435-630-6368. For beef call Steve: 435-820-0980. The stock show will be held July 7-10. If you need your animal tagged or for general questions and registration information please call the Extension Office at: 435-381-2381.

Emery County Recreation

Is looking for people interested in umpiring Cal Ripken, Babe Ruth, and softball games. Sign ups will be Feb. 22-March 5. If you prefer to pay with cash or by check you may do so at the Emery County Recreation office. Make checks payable to Emery County Cal Ripken League. Cost for registration is as follows: $45 for rookies, 7-8 year olds, $55 for minors, 9-10 year olds and majors, 11-12 year olds, and $65 for Babe Ruth, 13-15 year olds. Fly-tying Clinic

Learn how to tie flies like a pro starting Tues. March 2 for five weeks.
$20 registration fee includes nearly all suplies. Register at Emery County Recreation Office before March 1.

White Wash Sand Dunes Temporary Filming Closure

The White Wash Sand Dunes open OHV area will be closed for filming for approximately one week in late May, early June 2010. The Ruby Ranch Road, as well as all the other roads and trails in the area will remain open for visitor use. For example, the roads and trails in the Crystal Geyser area will be available for motorized use, and may be used as an alternative to the White Wash Sand Dunes.

Registration is now open for the April 10, 2010 ACT achievement
test. Students who wish to take the college admission and placement exam must
register before March 5, 2010.
The cost for the ACT test without writing is $32. When combined with the optional ACT Writing Test, the total cost is $47. Students who qualify may apply for a fee waiver through their high school counselor.

West Tavaputs Plateau Site Stewardship Program

Price, Utah-The Bureau of Land Management, Utah, Price Field Office will host a public meeting to discuss the development of a site stewardship program for the West Tavaputs Plateau, which includes Nine Mile Canyon. The meeting is scheduled for March 3, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., in the Carbon County Event Center conference room located at 450 South Fairgrounds Way, Price, Utah.
A site stewardship program allows trained volunteers the opportunity to work with professional archaeologists to protect archaeological and historical resources by visiting sites regularly to record visual observations. Stewardship volunteers are members of the public who are exceptionally interested in the ongoing protection and preservation of cultural resources.
Development of a site stewardship program is one of the measures included within the West Tavaputs Plateau Natural Gas Full Field Development Programmatic Agreement, which was finalized on Jan. 5, 2010. The purpose of this agreement is to protect cultural resources on West Tavaputs, while permitting orderly and environmentally-responsible natural gas development.

Food Handler’s Classes

There will be food handler’s classes for all persons working in restaurants, bars, nursing homes, school cafeterias, convenience stores or deli’s. Classes will be taught in Price at Southeastern Utah District Health Dep’t. located at 28 S. 100 E. at 9 a.m. 4 p.m. & 7 p.m. on March 16.
In Castle Dale at 25 W. Main at 4 p.m. & 7 p.m. on March 17.

The Salt Lake Children’s Choir is now in its 30th year and is planning a 30th Anniversary Gala Concert for Saturday, May 15, 2010 in Abravanel Hall. They are in the process of forming an Alumni choir and don’t have current contact information for all choir alumni and are hopeful that through this announcement they can reach as many former choir members as possible.
