EHS and GRHS ready for graduation May 27

Another school year has come and gone and commencement ceremonies will be held at Emery High and Green River High on May 27 at 7 p.m. The graduation speakers have been announced for each school. Emery High’s Valedictorian for 2010 is Nevin Jensen. Co-Salutatorians are Misti Merrell and Larelan Huntsman. Honor students are Lethi Guymon, Colton Leavitt and Brian Langston. For Green River High the Valedictorian is Lydia Dunham, Jill Vetere is the Salutatorian and Courtney Carter is the honor student.
Nevin Jensen is the 18-year-old son of Ty and Yvonne Jensen of Cleveland. During high school, Nevin participated in basketball and baseball. Outside of school, Nevin loves being outdoors and hunting. Nevin has maintained a 4.0 grade point average throughout high school. Nevin’s future plans include becoming a dentist.
Misti Merrell is the 18 year old daughter of Jason and Korene Merrell of Cleveland. She has enjoyed being the General Sterling Scholar and being involved with FBLA. Outside of school, she has enjoyed being a member of the Cleveland-Elmo Youth City Council and part of a local dance company.
Brian Langston is the son of Brent and Terry Langston of Ferron. His grade point average is 3.99 He was a member of the golf team, and he enjoys playing basketball with his friends. He is a member of the Honor Society. “I enjoy classes that are challenging,” said Brian.
Colton Leavitt is the 18 year old son of Kip and Julie Leavitt of Orangeville. He maintains a 4.0 grade point average in high school and will be graduating high school with his associates degree from CEU. He will be attending SUU this coming fall where he will pursue his passion for medicine by completing his pre-med. He also plans to serve a mission for the LDS Church. In his spare time, he is the assistant coach of the little league swim team, trains for and competes in triathlons state-wide, he skis, finds opportunities to lead and serve, works on stage crew at the high school, participates in theater, is the mayor for Orangeville Youth City Council, serves as first counselor in his church quorum, fishes, hunts, and tries to spend as much time with his family as possible, especially his nieces and nephews.
Lethi Guymon is the daughter of Darce and Peggy Guymon of Cleveland. She is editor of the school newspaper and is a math tutor. Lethi is in Future Business Leaders of America, on the speech and debate team, and is the reporter/historian on the student council.
Lethi’s academic interests are everything. She thinks all subjects are interesting but likes English best. She enjoys playing the piano, riding horses, reading, and teasing her brothers. She plans to attend college upon graduation.
Larelan Huntsman is the daughter of Laren and Lanell Huntsman of Castle Dale. She maintains a 4.0 grade point average and is the Emery High School Mathematics Sterling Scholar.
Larelen is a member of Emery High’s cross country and track teams, and is a member of EHS’s seminary council and the Castle Dale Youth City Council. She participates in choir, is a wrestling team manager, and is president of the math club. Larelan enjoys music, singing, piano, running, reading, being outdoors, hiking, and riding her bike. Larelan received an Academic All-State in cross country and has participated in many honor choirs. She plans to attend college after graduation.
Lydia Dunham is the daughter of Kirk and Paula Dunham of Green River.
Lydia is the president of the student body. She is a member of the Green River High volleyball team and drama club. She has participated in many plays and service projects during her years at Green River High.
Courtney Carter is the daughter of Candy Rodriguez and Tom and Shlisa Hughes of Green River. Courtney has been active in sports and cheerleading during her years at Green River High. She was the sterling scholar for English for Green River High.
Jill Vetere is the daughter of Greg and Rita Vetere of Green River. Jill has been active in sports and leadership at Green River High. She is noted for her fun personality.
Emery High opened in 1962. The Valedictory address for 2010 is, “It takes courage to grow up and become who you are,” by Nevin Jensen. Larelan Huntsman will deliver the Co-Salutatory address on “The Power of Perseverance.” Misti Merrell will deliver the Co-Salutatory address on “Keep Moving Forward.”
Honor student Lethi Guymon will speak on “Trust in the Rabbit’s Foot.” Colton Leavitt will speak on “Failure is not an option,” and Brian Langston will speak on “Ambition shapes the future.”
