On May 24, A. Duane (Pete) Jones will celebrate his 80th birthday. He was born on May 24, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Parley D. Jones and Venola Hansen Jones. His parents divorced and he moved to Elmo and was raised by his grandparents, Frank and Mary Pulisipher Jones. He attended school in Elmo through the eighth grade and North Emery High School in Huntington. After leaving school he worked at Tri-State Lumber in Price for several years. He worked as a builder/contractor with his father, working in many different locations throughout Utah. He worked at the Job Corps in Price, helping to train and rehabilitate individuals assigned to that facility. He then served as the safety director at Des-be-Dove Mine in Orangeville prior to retirement.
Duane married Erma Lou McMullin on June 4, 1949 in Cleveland. They had their marriage solemnized in the Manti Temple on Oct. 4, 1958. They built a home in Elmo where they resided until 1978, at which time they moved into a new home that they built next to their original residence.
Duane and Erma had six children, Dennis Jones, Sherrie Jones Chapman, Curtis Jones, Bart Jones (deceased), Stacey Jones Jewkes, and Kim Jones. They have 17 grandchildren as well as 12 great-grand children.
The family will be celebrating his big day on May 29 from 2-4 p.m. at the Elmo Ward Church and would like to welcome all his friends and neighbors to join them to share in the celebration of his “Big” day.
