Ferron is beginning a very special observance of Patriot’s Day on September 11. This will be the first inagural event of the Field of Flags. This event will remember our heroes with a field of flags.
Ferron Town council and mayor said, “Come unite with our community as we remember and honor the Heroes who give so selflessly and those who have given their all. The awe-inspiring Sunrise Ceremony will begin promptly at 7 a.m. on September 11 at the foot of the field located at 50 west 100 north in Ferron. This amazing display of flags will open Friday evening, Sept. 10 and run through Monday, Sept. 13,
The event is free to the public and will fly as a tribute to the Heroes we all wish to honor and remember. Come walk through our field and feel with us the love of our fellow soldiers and country.”
Lou Sansevero is a Veteran and citizen of Ferron, he said, “It has been said of veterans and patriots that ‘All gave some but some gave all’. On September 11 2001, 3,000 men, women, and children gave all when they died at the hands of cowardly religious fanatics and forever earned for themselves the right to be called American
“Patriots. At 7 a.m. on Saturday September 11 as part of the Peach Days celebration 2010 Ferron City will honor those 3,000 as well as the hundreds of thousands of other American Patriots, living and dead, many of whom who live quietly amongst us today, with a Field of Flags ceremony.
“The Consol mine has donated 300 roof bolts to serve as mounts for the 300 flags that will fly in the field which in turn were donated for use in this memorial event by the City of Ferron and the people of Ferron and Clawson. Honors will be rendered by American Legion Post 42, and its Auxiliary as well as members of the active duty military.
“I extend my hope, along with that of my fellow Veterans, that the people of Emery County will show their patriotism and respect for all American Patriots by participating, en mass, in this solemn event and to demonstrate that we, in Emery County, have not, and will not, ever forget.”
