No respect, not today, not yesterday and probably not tomorrow for the so-called little guys in college football, as the big boys are at it again in college football.
Once again the supremacy of the haves is being challenged by the so-called wannabes. For just about the entire college football season, either Boise State or TCU has been ranked near the top of the college rankings and some just don’t believe that they are for real and deserve their spots there.
Just the other day, the President of Ohio State University, I presume a somewhat educated man judging from the job title that he has, had the audacity to say that both TCU and BSU do not belong with the big boys, that they do not play a schedule worthy of being considered a potential champion. He states “their schedule is like playing the Little Sisters of the Poor while we play fine schools on any given day.”
What a piece of crap that statement is and what a pompous idiot to actually make such a statement. It just proves once again that just because one has an education that not everyone is smart.
I am not knocking getting as much education that one can but somewhere along the line one must also develop some common sense. On this day, this college president did not demonstrate his having any.
In college football, there are some excellent programs spread throughout the country including two right here in Utah. But with one exception, at least in my mind and that is the only one that counts as I write this piece, there are no great football conferences. That lone exception is the SEC, where good football is played just about everywhere, every Saturday.
The PAC 10, the Big 10, the Big 12, the ACC, and the Big East all are rather ordinary conferences when it comes to college football. While they may want to champion their own cause, in actuality they all are football conferences with a couple of good teams and the rest being quite ordinary.
In fact, the Big East and the ACC are so bad that they barely have any team ranked in the top 25 programs in the country in college football this season. That is a problem.
While BSU and TCU or even Utah, up to a couple of weeks ago, have to worry about a spot in the BCS crap, these conferences are blessed with each having a spot guaranteed that will bring millions of dollars into their programs. That is wrong.
It is still time for the BCS to go away. They are all about money for themselves and not about crowning a true college champion. The colleges of the NCAA ought to be making the money from these games and not some organization that is there just to promote themselves.
While bowl games are nice, going to or watching on TV a real playoff game would be so much better and so much more profitable for the schools of this country.
True champions are crowned from junior high school all the way to the NFL, in every sport that exists with the lone exception of major college football. It is now time to have one here. When you win, you get bragging rights and when you don’t, well there is always next year.
Decide the game on the field, not with your mouth or with a vote. End the crap now.
