Pirate boys win season opener, girls lose heartbreaker

The Green River Pirates won their first game of the season with new coaches, Coach Tom Hughes and Coach Richie Hansen. The Pirates came out on top by a score of 55-49 at the final buzzer.
Justin Johnson led the team with 22 points, Jason Johnson had 13, Jake Corrigan 10, Tre Burton six, Holden Marshall and Adrian Escalante each had two. The boys traveled to Wayne on Dec. 2 and host Grand on Dec. 7 and then will travel to SVC for a tournament on Dec. 10 and 11.
The girls lost a heartbreaker in over time by two, 43 – 45 was the final score for the Lady Pirates and Lady Tigers on the night before Thanksgiving. They played a tough game, but came up just short at the buzzer.
Megan Hatt was the top scorer with 13, Cady Mecham scored 12, Jamie Johnson seven, Feleisha and Melissa Antillon each had four, and Michaela Hughes with three. The girls traveled to the Valley Tournament on Dec. 3 and 4 and will host San Juan on Dec. 10.
