For the first time in their very short history of being a high school swim team, the swimmers from Emery High School have tasted victory in a dual meet. Last Wednesday, Emery hosted Delta at the Emery Aquatic Center and defeated the Rabbits 141-115. Delta has long had a swim team and had soundly defeated the Spartans last season.
On this day, the meet was won because Emery seemingly had more depth than Delta. The Emery swimmers who had done well in their first couple of meets also did well here but they had help as the rest of the young squad stepped up their swim and also did well. The Emery boys score was 80-54 while the girls team tied 61-61.
Weston Allinson won event six, the 200 yard individual medley in 2:37.85, won event 18, the 100-yard backstroke in 1:10.64 and was a member of two winning relay teams, event two, the 200-yard medley relay and event 22, the 400-yard freestyle relay. Eli Oliverson won event 20, the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:17.96, finished second in event 12, the 100-yard freestyle and was also a member of the two relay teams. Tyler Rowley won event 14, the 500-yard freestyle in 6:13.92, finished second in the 100-yard backstroke and also was a member of both relay teams. All three swimmers are juniors in this second-year program.
Connor Benson swam on the 400-yard relay team and Spencer Fauver swam on the 200-yard relay team. In event four, the 200-yard freestyle, Colton Clement finished second and Benson finished fourth. In event eight, the 50-yard freestyle, Fauver finished second and Justan Potter finished fourth. In the 100-yard backstroke, Michael Nelson finished third.
In the 200-yard medley, Nelson, Benson, Clement and Taylor Hardman finished third. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Clement, Nelson, Potter and Fauver finished second. In that same event, Hardman, Leedan Johnson, Randy Allen and Tyler Miera finished third.
Jessica Guymon was the only individual winner for Emery on the girls’ side. Guymon won event 19, the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:27.96. Tennyson Fauver finished second and Hailee Rogers finished third in that same race.
The girls’ 400-yard freestyle relay team took event 21 in 5:39.83. The team consisted of Brinne Dawes, Rogers, Ashlin Daley and Mia Doria. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Fauver, Guymon, Tanner Peterson and Morgan Curtis finished second. The 200-yard medley team of Daley, Fauver, Dawes and Doria also finished second.
Also placing for Emery were Peterson second in the 200-yard freestyle, Doria, Rogers and Guymon were second, third and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle, Dawes was second in the 100-yard butterfly, Peterson, Judy Boyer and Jolyn Jennings were second, third and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle.
Emery’s next home swim meet is Dec. 10 against Uintah.
