SPRINGVILLE/PRICE-Joseph Alexander Harvey, age 90 passed away peacefully at his home in Springville, on Thursday, April 7, 2011. Joseph was born, Jan. 6, 1921. He was one of eight children born to Stanley Charles and Elenore Richards Harvey.
Joseph married Lillian Hunter Harvey on May 17, 1947 in West Weber, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. Lillian passed away on May 20, 1992. He then married Betty Lloyd Hess Harvey on April 24, 1993 in Provo, Utah.
Joseph grew up in Sunnyside and graduated from Carbon High. He served his country during WWII in the U.S Navy. Joseph was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities including a Bishop. He also served a full time mission with Lillian in 1989 in Jackson, Miss.
Joseph worked as a coal miner for many years, where he was a mine manager for US Steel. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and received the Lifetime Achievement Award by Southeastern Utah Energy Producers Association.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, who was always active in serving others throughout his life, and as a valiant servant of his Father in Heaven.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Betty Lloyd Hess Harvey of Springville, children: Robert Harvey of Los Angeles, Calif., Sid (Linda) Harvey of Ferron, Utah, J Brett (Carol) Harvey of Pittsburgh, Pa., Kirk (Mary Ann) Harvey of Bellevue, Wash., Carr (Shawn) Harvey of North Salt Lake, Utah, Elizabeth Kourianos of Kemmerer, Wyo., stepchildren: Jan (Bob) Haire of Bountiful, Utah, and Gail Gessil of Rigby, Idaho, 33 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren, sisters: Dolores Burnham, Beth Ferguson and Nelda (Frank) DeLost.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lillian, children: Boyd and Byron Harvey, stepchildren: Gene, Richard, Suzane and Sandra Hess, brothers: James, Thomas, Boyd and William Harvey, grandsons: Jared Harvey and step grandson: John Hess.
Interment will be at 3 p.m., in the Price City Cemetery (400 North 600 East, Price, Utah), with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post #3.
