FERRON – Bill Zerl Jones, age 85, passed away May 25, 2011. Bill was born May 19, 1926 in Castle Dale to Wallace Raymond and Olivia Lily Lake Jones. He married Margie Rhodes Jones on July 1, 1950 in Ferron. Margie passed away on May 10, 1984. He then married Connie Sitterud Beach Jones on Sept. 9, 1988 in Castle Dale.
Bill was a coal miner for 44 years. He was the local UMWA President and the District Union Mine President. He was a rancher, and although he loved working with cows, his true love was farming. He loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, and 4-wheeling. He will be remembered as an honest hard worker, dependable, strong, compassionate, and caring. He literally traveled the world, but he always considered Ferron his home, calling it God’s Country. He loved his family, especially his children. He was the rock of his family.
Bill is survived by his wife, Connie; children: Larry (Gloria) Jones of Myton, Utah, Sharon (Syl) Birdsall of Prather, Calif., Debra Riche of Price, Tamara Druschen of Santa Clarita, Calif., Carl Jones of Ferron, Colyn Rae Beach Mertes of Montana, and Cheri Ruth (Eric) Breck of Beaver Creek, Ore.; siblings: Dick (Annalee) Jones of Orangeville, Jack Jones of Castle Dale, Paula Jewkes of Castle Dale, Eugene (Barbara) Jones of Bountiful, Utah, and Lorna (Ronald) Brodrick of Bountiful, Utah; 20 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace Raymond and Olivia Lily Lake Jones; brother, Lamar O. Jones; two sisters Ila Sanderson and Bernice Anderson; sister-in-law, Corrine Jones; brother-in-law, Vern Jewkes; grandson, Matt Birdsall; son, Martin Bary Beach; great-grandson, Landon Beach.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Millsite LDS Ward Chapel (35 W. 200 N., Ferron). There will be a viewing on Tuesday from 12-1:30 p.m. prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Ferron City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary.
