CASTLE DALE – Blye Stilson Gregersen was born Oct. 15, 1914, in Orangeville, Utah, to Melvin and Ella Hall Stilson. She had her farewell parting at the Emery County Care Center on May 31, 2011. Blye was married on Sept. 17, 1934, to Ever L. Gregersen of Castle Dale, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Blye devoted her life in the service of others. She had a sharp mind and a determination to do good. Blye became an LPN in her late 40s. She gave loving care to the patients in the LDS Hospital for more than 15 years.
She loved family, friends, and just people in general. She was worried about her sister, Faun, because of her health problems. At the age of 90, Blye moved into a room with her at the care center to make sure she was getting the best of care. The two of them tried to make everyone feel loved and cared for. They knew all the residents by name, and many of them were relatives.
Blye was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She was actively involved in the church her whole life. She was still bearing her testimony and offering prayers through her 96th year. She was active in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Senior Citizen’s Band, and many other organizations.
She loved her flower garden. She was still planting, weeding, digging, and watering at her home in Castle Dale up until close to her 90th birthday. She watered plants and pulled weeds at the care center whenever she could.
Blye is survived by her children: Larry (Wilma) Gregersen of Clawson, Russell Gregersen of Las Vegas, Nev., Toshiko Gregersen of Clawson, Xuan “Mia” Gregersen of Castle Dale, and Phyllis (Ben) Cline of Overland Park, Kan.; sisters: Pat DeWitt of Virgin, Utah, and Roma Christensen of Spanish Fork, Utah; 29 grandchildren; and, at last count, more than 70 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Blye was preceded in death by her husband, Ever; her parents; and within this past year, she was preceded in death by two sons, Fred Marcus and Melvin Layne; a daughter-in-law, Sara Gregersen, wife of Russell; a brother-in-law, Roland “Bud” Christensen, husband of Roma; and last but not least, her dear sister, Faun Coakley. This was the final straw. Now Blye needed someone to care for her.
We all want to express our love for her and the example she set for all of us. Farewell, until we meet again.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 4, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Castle Dale LDS Stake Center (35 East Main). There was a viewing Friday, June 3, from 6 – 7 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary (720 N. Center St., Castle Dale), and on Saturday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Interment was in the Castle Dale City Cemetery. Services were in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Family and friend may sign the guest book and share memories of Blye at www.fausettmortuary.com.
