Thirteen beautiful contestants, three winning royalty, and one fabulous pageant. The Little Miss Emery County Pageant flew high on June 16 at Canyon View Junior High in Huntington. Participants with ages ranging from 6-15 were eager to show off their stuff. After a welcome from Elise DeBry-Miss Emery County 2010, and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Aspen Hansen-Little Miss Emery County 2010, the pageant began. The contestants introduced themselves, and Little Miss Emery County Aspen Hansen performed her famous Thriller Dance.
The personality/sports wear competition was full of fun as the participants dressed up to reflect their favorite activities. Many dressed in sportswear, some as cowgirls, and a few as shopping divas. Next was the talent portion of the pageant. Most girls sang popular songs or danced to trendy tunes. A tumbling routine, a tap dance, a piano performance, and a humorous reading added spice to the talent competition.
After all the competitors had performed their talents, Miss Emery County Elise DeBry sang “A Change in Me” from Beauty and the Beast. This is the talent Elise will take to the Miss Utah competition. The Little Miss Emery County Pageant was a fundraiser to send the current Emery County royalty to Salt Lake City. Elise DeBry will be competing for Miss Utah and Aspen Hansen will accompany her.
The last portion of the pageant was the evening wear competition. The participants walked on stage in their best dresses, displaying their princess personalities. A description of each girl was read as they individually walked across the stage and posed for the judges.
While points were tallied up, Aspen performed her final walk. Elise accompanied her by singing “Never Grow Up” from Taylor Swift. It was evident to everyone that these two girls have become close friends in the past year, despite their age difference.
Finally, the apprehensive moment arrived. Elise, with help from Aspen, crowned Miss Photogenic of 2011, Taylor Johnson. The royalty was then announced.
