ELMO-Neva Smith, age 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 28, 2011 in Elmo. Neva was born Aug. 17, 1918 in Castle Gate, Utah, the second child and only daughter born to Willard and Anna Laura Wood Miller. Neva married Leo Tharp on Sept. 19, 1937 in Huntington, they later divorced. She married John E. Smith on June 26, 1968 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Neva was raised in Castle Dale and graduated from Central High, in 1937. Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous callings. She loved to help others and give of her time and talents. Neva loved being with friends and family and served as a Pink Lady for eight years. She was also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
Neva is survived by her children: Willard (Jeanette) Tharp of Orangeville, Dick (Vickie) Tharp of Lompoc, Calif., Jay (Dorthey) Tharp of Kaysville, LeRoy (Karen) Tharp of West Jordan, Utah and Lou Ann Miller of West Valley City, 16 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren, brother, LWood (Delana) Miller of Castle Dale, sisters-in-law: Dorothy Miller of Elmo, Doris Miller of Magna.
Neva was preceded in death by her parents, husband: John Smith, infant daughter: Laura Lavern Tharp, grandchildren: Tony and Holley Tharp, two brothers: Marvin and Dee Miller.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Primary Children’s Hospital.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Elmo LDS Ward Chapel. A viewing will be Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011 from 6-7 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale and Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Castle Dale City Cemetery.
