Celebrating 100 years of a life well spent
Rose Woodbury Morley was born in St. George, Utah on Oct. 18, 1911 as the second of 13 children born to John Taylor Woodbury Jr. and Nimzar Gagosian Woodbury. She was the oldest of 11 daughters born into that family. Her father was an educator who taught for 45 years most of those years at Dixie College.
Rose married Gerald Blackham Morley on Sept. 1, 1932 in Provo, Utah. They were later sealed in marriage in the Manti LDS Temple. Gerald and Rose lived in Price, Utah all their married lives. Six children were born to this couple, they are: Shirley Nimzar Hansen Blackburn (Calvin Hansen/Ferr Blackburn), Richard “Dick” Henrie (Diane Bean), Ray “Jeddy” Gerald (Sandy Craig), Carl Woodbury (Patty Marinoni/Bette Hawk), Susan (Tom Tucker) and Scott Taylor (Sharon Davis).
Gerald died in 1959 but Rose has continued to live in the same home-which was built for Rose during the depression-for the past 74 years.
Gerald and Rose have been blessed with 38 grandchildren, 131 great grandchildren and 15 great, great, grandchildren. Gerald and Rose have a posterity of a total of 251 persons all of whom have loved and revered them.
In her personal history Rose describes herself as “one of the luckiest girls ever born” to be being raised in beautiful St. George, Utah and then being able to spend the past 84 years in her beloved Price, Carbon County, Utah.
Rose first came to Price, Utah as a little girl to visit her Gagosian grandparents who had built a home and some apartments on 100 West Street. She fell in love with Price as a little girl and decided then that she wanted to live in this community for the rest of her life.
Rose has always been a very active, determined woman. She taught her children well and worked very hard after the death of her husband, when she was but 47 years old, to raise her two small children. She worked odd jobs to provide for herself and to ensure that her children got a good start in life whether that was an education, a mission or a good job. Her children are grateful for her sacrifice in their behalf and for the excellent example of faithfulness she has set for them and for their children over the long course of her life.
Her children express love and appreciation to all who have contributed to mother’s care and the richness of her life over the years.
