"Jamie Johnson bumps one over the net for the lady Pirates."

By ROYD HATT Guest Writer

The Lady Pirates played two volleyball matches last week. The first was a non region match played on the road with the Eagles of Duchesne. The Pirates came out slow in the first set, but worked hard in this four set contest. Green River lost this match, 17-25, 20-25, 25-23 and 23-25. The Pirates played better with each passing set and built some confidence in a match they felt they should have won. Jamie Johnson was the kill leader in the match with 12 and two aces. Megan Hatt followed with 11 kills, one ace and three blocks. Michaela Hughes recorded 10 kills, three aces and seven blocks. Dallice Johnson had 18 assists and three aces. Sydney Thayn and Feleisha Antillion each served one ace in the match.
In their second match of the week, the Pirates hosted the Pinnacle Academy Panthers in an important region match. The Pirates wasted no time in this match and came out with great focus to quickly defeat the Panthers, 25-8, 25-17 and 25-10. Michaela Hughes pounded down 13 kills and served eight aces. Megan Hatt slammed in 12 kills, two assists and two aces. Jamie Johnson also tallied six kills. Dallice Johnson set her way to 21 assists and five aces.
Again this was a great team effort and earns the Pirates a second place berth in the upcoming state tournament with one match remaining in Monticello with the Buckaroos.
