The Emery High Lady Spartans and the Green River High Lady Pirates both advanced to this week’s Utah High School State volleyball tournaments being held at Utah Valley University. Last week, the Lady Spartans after losing a heartbreaker to Richfield at home, went on the road to South Sevier in a win or be through game and the Lady Spartans defeated the Rams on their court in three straight games. With the win Emery advances to this weeks 2-A state tournament.
The Lady Pirates had played solidly all season and finished region 19 action in second place behind Monticello. The Lady Pirates advance to the 1-A state tournament. The 2-A and 1-A teams will start play on Oct. 28. Emery will open the tournament against Enterprise at 9:30 a.m. on court 3. Enterprise won region 13 this year. Green River will open state play against either Concordia or Intermountain Christian at 12:30 p.m. on court 2.
After the opening game, Emery will play next at 2 p.m. against either the winner or the loser of the game between North Sevier and North Summit. If they win, they play on court 1 and if they lose they play on court 2 in the activity center.
Green River’s next ball game will be against either the winner of match 8 at 5 p.m. or against the loser of match 8 at 7 p.m.
