Veteran’s Day was a special day in the county as banks and county offices, state and federal offices were closed to observe the holiday.
The Ferron Veterans gathered at the Veteran’s Memorial to honor Veterans with a 21 gun salute.
Veteran Sam Singleton talked about each of the wars that the United States has been involved. The price of freedom isn’t free and many soldiers have given their lives to ensure a safe America for its citizens.
Tributes were also held in the schools and there will be further coverage of Veteran’s Day events including a program at San Rafael Junior High and Cleveland elementaries.
The original name of Veterans Day was Armistice Day. On Nov. 11, 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a proclamation in which Armistice Day was replaced with Veterans Day to widen the scope of observance.
