The Emery High Spartan wrestling team opened the 2011-12 season with a match against the North Sevier Wolves at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale just before Thanksgiving. Final score of the match was 41-27 for North Sevier with Emery forfeiting two matches due to lack of wrestlers in the lightest weight groups.
Emery won four matches by pins and one by decision. North Sevier won four matches by pins, three matches by decisions and one by forfeit. At 106, neither team had a wrestler so no forfeit points were given.
Kenden Huff wrestling in the 220 pound weight class, gave Emery their first points of the night by pinning his man in the second round. Huff was down 3-2 after the first round and the two wrestlers started the second round in the neutral position. After about a minute of the round with no new points being awarded, Huff took his opponent down and pinned him with 52 seconds left in the round.
Brandon McCandless, wrestling in the 285 pound bracket, took his man down and pinned him with 59 seconds gone in the first round to give Emery the lead at 12-9.

In round two, Collard started from the down position, got a reversal 13 seconds into the round and then the two battled the rest of the round with no change in score. The period ended 2-2.
In round three, the final round, Collard fell behind 8-2 including a near fall. With less than 30 seconds left in the match, Collard somehow lifted his man off of him, got a reversal to get to 4-8, got a near fall to get to 7-8 and with 1.7 seconds left in the match, Collard got the pin and won.
Cole Guymon, at 145 pounds, took his man down halfway through the first round and then maneuvered his way into a hold that allowed him to pin his man with 19 seconds left in the round. Guymon controlled the match the entire way in getting the win.
