The 2011-12 high school basketball season is now going strong. Emery opened the season by playing in the Hall of Fame tournament in Richfield. Emery defeated Enterprise 47-37 in a game between defending state champions. Emery then came home and hosted the Carbon Dinos in a rematch game between last season’s championship game participants with the Dinos winning easily 49-30. Emery this week is traveling to Bear River High in Tremonton and playing in a three-day tournament with 3-A, 4-A and 5-A teams.
Miranda Averett led the Carbon Dinos with 17 points as the Dinos outscored Emery in every quarter of the game and easily got some revenge for last season’s final game. Carbon was 11 for 13 at the free throw line while Emery was a not very good four for 13 as Emery had trouble scoring all night.
After Emery scored the first two points of the game, Carbon scored the next seven points over the next four minutes to lead 7-2 and Carbon led after the first period 14-6. Carbon then won the second period 10-7 and led at the half 24-13.
Emery came out strong in the second half and quickly scored five points to narrow the gap but unfortunately Carbon then scored the next 14 points and the Dinos led 38-20 after three periods. Carbon started out the fourth quarter on a 7-2 run before the reserves finished the game for both teams.
Blayr Jeffs led the way for Emery with eight points and five rebounds. Jeridi Price finished with seven points and three rebounds. Kim Oldroyd had five points and five rebounds. Also scoring for the Spartans were Shelby Allred with three points, Ashlynn Allred, Sidnee Conder and Shailee Stokes with two points each and Whitney Roper with one point.

Against Enterprise, Emery had a big first half in this game between the defending 2-A champion and the defending 3-A champion. Emery led 27-12 at the half.
Jeridi Price led the Spartans with 13 points while Blayr Jeffs scored 12 points. Jeffs sprained an ankle in the first half which limited her playing time in the game. Price had nine rebounds in the game to lead the team in this category also. Jeffs also had four rebounds and a pair of steals.
Stokes and Kelsie Cox each scored eight points in the game with Roper scoring four points and Oldroyd scoring two points. Oldroyd also pulled down nine rebounds and had two steals. Stokes had six rebounds, three assists and a steal. Cox led the team with four assists.
