Chet Funk: State champion wrestler to attend National Competition
Winning the first state wrestling championship for Emery High School in 18 years is a wonderful accomplishment. The next opportunity is knocking at the door. Being a state champion qualifies Funk to attend the NHSCA National High School Wrestling Championships held in Virginia Beach, Virginia held March 29 – April 1.
This venue offers many opportunities that may otherwise be out of reach. “Every college wrestling coach in the country has been invited to attend this event. Past events have served as tremendous showcases of recruiting for the college coach. Last year, more than 200 college wrestling coaches were in attendance. The list of schools included the top 25 Division I wrestling programs in the country. There have been thousands of scholarships over the past 20 years awarded to individuals because of their performance at this event.”
To help make this dream a reality an account for “Chet Funk Wrestling Benefit” has been set up at Desertview Federal Credit Union. Any company or individual wishing to help Funk attend this most prestigious high school event can make their contribution at the credit union. The cost to get Funk and his Coach to the event will be approximately $2,600. Registration cut off is March 25.
Fund raiser organizers said, “Any amount you can contribute will be greatly appreciated. We are also holding a raffle for several different prizes including a Browning 12 gauge pump shotgun, a Diamond Razor Edge bow, a dozen arrows, and a tool kit. A winner for each prize will be drawn at the end of March and winners will be notified. Tickets are $20 each. Contact Jack Funk or Travis Allen to purchase tickets.”
Any funds received above the required amount will be donated to Emery High School Wrestling for the 2013 season. Questions or comments please contact wrestling coaches: Doug Mecham – 435-749-0412, Jack Funk – 435-650-1432; Brandon Wise – 435-650-6119; Travis Allen – 435-650-7857.
