Last week, the Emery High baseball team completed their preseason play with a home loss against Uintah and then they opened region 15 action at home with a victory over Richfield 3-2.
While saving their best pitching for region, Emery played Uintah well except for one inning, the second. Uintah scored all four runs in that inning as they got most their hits in that inning plus the Spartans aided with the commission of several errors.
Emery scored their lone run in the first inning and then left plenty of runners on base but they could not push another run across the plate. Geren Payne had a double in the game. Emery had seven base hits to Uintah’s five.
On Friday, Emery scored three times in the second inning and then held on to win the game by a single run. Kaden Feichko doubled to left field to open the inning. After Hunter Huntington picked up a base on balls, Curtis Mason had a sacrifice bunt that advanced both runners.
With Colton Collard up to bat, Feichko scored on a passed ball and eventually Huntington also scored on another passed ball. Jordan Cox, Tappan Draper and Ridge Nielson all walked forcing in Collard with the third run of the inning and as it turned out, the winning run.
Geren Payne picked up the victory on the mound as he limited the Wildcats to five base hits.
Emery will travel to Grand in Moab on Tuesday and then the Spartans will host Monticello on Saturday. Monticello is playing 2-A baseball only and is in region 15 for this one sport.
