The Emery High Lady Spartans played well and looked good in securing two preseason matches last week. On Tuesday, Emery defeated North Sevier 3-1 in Castle Dale and then on Thursday, Emery traveled to Price and defeated the Lady Dinos 3-2.
After watching the Lady Spartans they usually start slow and they usually finish fast and hard. Last week was no different.
Against North Sevier, Emery won the first game 25-23. Emery was down 13-9 and took their first lead at 19-18. Emery lost game two 25-20 after falling behind 10-3. In games three and four, it was a whole different Emery. The Spartans won game three 25-15 and game four 25-12.
At Carbon, Emery lost game one 25-23 and then the Spartans lost game two 29-27. Emery then won the next three games to win the match. The scores were 25-22, 25-18 and 15-10. After losing a couple of games that were battles to the very end, the Spartans appeared to stun Carbon in dominating the final three games.
Seniors Hailee Rogers, Jessica Guymon, Shelby Allred and Jentrie Allred have blended together to help mold a team that appears to have the discipline and determination to win. Each will have their moment in a match where they will do something special to help their team secure the win.
Against North Sevier for example, Emery’s final point in game one came off a cross-court bump by Shelby while in game three, Jessica scored the final point off a kill shot. In game four, Rogers had a kill shot for point 24 followed by another Guymon kill shot.
Also playing for Emery are juniors Sidnee Conder and Hannah Dyer along with sophomores Bailey Rasmussen, Cassidy Labrum and Ashlynn Allred. Each of these players brings their own special talents to the team and help make it better and fun to watch.
Emery hosts Gunnison on Tuesday night and Payson on Thursday night in games this week. Varsity is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. but the actual game time will depend on the length of the two earlier games.
